Check out this excerpt from an article discussing future opponents for these two; "In one scenario Cotto would move up in weight to fight, say, Vernon Forrest. (Arum also mentioned another 154-pounder, James Kirkland, who made a brief but impressive Boxing After Dark debut last weekend.) In another he might meet yet another welterweight champion, but only provided his name is Paul Williams. Should Carlos Quinanta retain his WBO title at the Mohegan, it might be hard to persuade the public of the viability of a second Cotto-Quintana fight, given the one-sided nature of the first. Should Margarito win, of course, all of the above options are open, as well as a few more, including the Ricky Hatton-Paulie Malignaggi winner and even a possible title shot for Andre Berto somewhere down the line. (If Shane Mosleys name came up, on the other hand, I dont recall hearing it.)" Cotto vs. Kirkland would definately be a fight that I would want to see, same as with Cotto vs. Williams. Margo vs. Kirkland or Margo vs. Berto would be good fights as well.
And no mention of Mayweather??? I know that the haters will say its because Floyd wouldnt fight, but we dont know if Floyd would fight Cotto if he is never asked....Or offered a fight:huh
Floyd was mentioned in the article; Nor will the prize for the Cotto-Margarito winner be Mayweather. Forget Floyd, said Arum in New York on Thursday. Floyd isnt going to fight either guy. Anyway, Floyd is the top dog in the sport. If he's interested in fighting the winner, all he has to do is pick up the phone. I'm pretty sure they'll listen.
Again, Arum says that without evidence. There has been no offer to Floyd. Floyd is the ****ing champ, the P4P king. Why should he be the challenger? Let Cotto or Arum call him.
Number 1, I think people are losing focus here. The puprose of this thread was to discuss some of the potential matchups that Arum is proposing for the winner of this fight. Number 2, Floyd has stated that he will fight Cotto when he feels like it, that Cotto needs to get his numbers up before he will consider him, and that no one makes him offers, he's the one who makes offers. Now Arum has also stated that he would love to be involved in a Mayweather/Cotto fight. So at this point, it seems useless for Arum to call on Floyd for a potential match with Cotto when Floyd has made it perfectly clear that he will only fight Cotto when he's ready.
Plus, Hatton said he won't go up to 147 again. Probably he would go up to fight mega events against Cotto, Mayweather, Mosley or De la Hoya. But not to fight someone like Margarito or Quintana.
I don't care what Floyd decides to do, but if he doesn't fight the winner of this fight, it's really bad for the sport and fans would be missing out on the best possible fight out there, maybe of the last 10 years.
Floyd is not important. Too full of himself. He is like the Harlem Globe Trotters. Making big shows but not really competing with anybody. I think Cotto has the same options Margarito has. I will even pay to see him beat Mallignaggi again. But Cotto needs to watch out!!! I think Arum is seeing more money making chances with Tony than with Cotto. Specially since there are about 110 millions more mexicans than puertorricans in the world. I don't think Arum is Cotto's friend. I hope he is really carefull
