Its true and you know it ... if this were Cotto v Mayweather this would be all over TV ... promoted correctly ... and there would be no mention of the ecomony. The fight would double or triple the numbers that Cotto v Margarito does ... and possibly tops the number of all of Cotto's fights put together. Its not because of Cotto ... its because Mayweather is a big draw ... and because he is who he is ... people would start to pay closer attention to Cotto ... maybe watch some of his former fights ... read his bio ... **** like that.
I heard that Pac v Diaz did 190k ... if thats true then yeah ... I definitely don't see this fight selling more than that ... Pac is a true star and has a bigger fan base than both Cotto and Margarito combine. He isn't even Mexican and has more Mexican fans than Margarito ...
if manny's fight didnt crack 200k ... officially this fight wont crack 130k.. **** maybe might not even crack 100k
Thank you ... I don't think so either ... I don't see any fights this year that will top the Trinidad v Jones PPV fight ...
You have Marrgarito who has never headlined a venue outside of Cali ... and then you have Cotto who has a major fan base on the east coast ... yet the fight is in Vegas. But you already know that Arum is going to blame it on the economy ...
Margarito headlined a Top Rank PPV in Vegas in 2006. Roger Mayweather was even there and exchanged a few words with Tony in the post fight presser. Marg told Roger he would make Floyd quit on his stool like Chavez did to him. Anyway, anyone who doesn't acknowledge the **** economy having a big effect on ticket sales for this fight is an idiot. Not even the UFC was able to do particularly well in Vegas two weeks ago. UFC 86 did virtually identical numbers to Pacquiao-Diaz, which considering how big the UFC is right now, is saying a lot. Am I say the economy is the only factor to blame? No. The fact that these are two guys who don't speak English particularly well, or the fact that they are virtually unknown to the casual fan, is also to blame. Not to mention the **** promotion done by Top Rank. Either way, at the end of the day, the numbers that matter most will be the PPV numbers. Tito-Vargas wasn't close to being sold out, but it did around 560,000 PPV buys. That's partially due to the Mexican/PR rivalry, and partially to it being a great match up that most boxing fans in general wanted to see. Cotto and Margarito are not nearly as popular as those two fighters were, so to expect those type of numbers is unrealistic. But the PPV should do relatively well, considering. If not, then it will say a lot about the current state of Boxing.
what do you mean cotto-judah bombed? that fight sold out really well, infact they had to open the seats on the rafters.
hahaha that was all because of rampage..... kimbo would outsell anyone in ufc aside from that though... i saw the first advertisement on tv for marg vs cotto... it was on tbs i think add was horrible.. nothing special at all
