Not even that ... if it had a solid undercard then it would make sense ...

But Margarito is going to hurt the numbers and the marketability of this fight.

I'm sure he's paid his dues and deserves the bout, but this guy isn't known by anyone who occassionally watches boxing but isn't a die hard fan ... but they can be seen as more than a casual fan.

HBO could ****ing sell ice to an eskimo if they put they work into it. It may not do they numbers DLH/Mayweather would do because of the inherent personalities, but if they can make Joe Calzaghe look interesting, they can do it for anyone.

I agree bro ... Mayweather hyped the fight and sold the fight ... only thing DLH brought to the table was ... the "he doesn't want to make me angry" theory.

Mayweather exposed DLH for not having any personalilty ...

True, he deserves the fight and money but he isn't well known at all. Thats why I think a fight with him and Floyd wouldn't have sold out. But the PPV numbers would be cool. But do you think this will sell more than Pac vs Diaz?

DLH has never had a "personality" in that sense. What he does is a HUGE name and notoriety, a quasi-latino background and good looks that draw women in bunches.

This is the same situation as Pac v Diaz ... you have a guy well known to many boxing fans (Pacquiao) and you have a guy that isn't well known to boxing fans (Diaz) and you put the two together ... it doesn't make people want to tune it.

I don't blame it on the economy ... because if there were better matches made or more marketing of the fighters then it would be a differrent scenario.

To asnwer your question ... no I don't think it will sell more than Pac v Diaz ... just because Pacquiao is a bigger star than both Margarito and Cotto ...

I think after having a record breaking year in boxing (as far as #') this years numbers are going to fail to reach the numbers of last year ... as of now the highest selling fight is Marquez v Pacquiao ... no way that wouldve happened last year.

i agree DLH personality as far as being exciting is kind of suspect.... but oscar doesnt sell fights that way...

he does it by being the guy that everyone likes..

    good looks
    fight any body attitude
his whole latino swagger ( before the cross dressing photo's)

is pretty much would sell oscar

him & floyd were polar opposites and it made for an explosive mix as far as #'s go.. especially with the 24/7's and floyds antics haha

i loved every minute of it

and you gotta admit the 24/7s play with your mind

before 24/7 i todl all my friends ( who didnt watch much boxing)

that floyd would just out dance oscar to a 12 rd decision

but during and after 24/7 i was pretty nervous and was thinking floyd might get beat... and all those same freinds who didnt care about boxing before

were all swearing oscar was going to ko floyd..

so the whole promoting of that fight was amazing... and floyd did a good job of being hated to sell the fight

hahahaha i love that economy excuse....

if prime tyson was fighting wlad ...

the fight would sell out and do a gazillion buys...

floyd vs paq right now would sell out and do a gazillion buys with proper promting

floyd vs hatton in uk would sell out and do a gazillion buys
floyd vs oscar would sell out and do a bunch of buys
    both with proper promoting ...

its just about marketing and the guys in the ring

but people definitely want to see floyd fight.. especially with the nba summer league currently happening in vegas which brings extra people with $$ to the table to witness the fight

How about a link to where you read this in the OP.

I personally don't wish to believe someone who is a hater of Cotto/Margarito.

Ticket sales won't surpass Diaz v Pacquiao ... Pacquiao has fought in Vegas ... 3 straight times ... and 4 out of his last 5 fights ... and he gave the fans 2 wars ... w/ Morales and Marquez ...
and he was moving up in weight ...

Cotto hasn't fought in Vegas since 2004 ... and Margarito has never headlined a venue outside of California.

Yeah its bad promoting and match making ... not the economy ...

These fights aren't worthy of a $500 ticket and they aren't worth $50 on you cable bill.

put these fights on regular HBO and lower the ring side seat prices ...

If Floyd fought in August when the MAGIC SHOW is out here in my city of Vegas. He could get alot of support by blacks and others to come see his fights against anyone. But I just don't think a fight with Margo would do well. A Mosley and Cotto fight would do well and u know those reasons
