Yeah like it or not ... FLoyd is a big draw ... he's always the topic of conversation when talking about boxing ... and since he's retired ... its been hard for fans to stop talking about him. They talk about him more than they ever did.
any time theres a predominantly black or a hollywood gathering going on someone like floyd wil do well because the way floyd fights are now its a place you can appear to show off..... mosley & cotto is appetizing because of the rematch... if cotto win and dont get oscar that might be a good look to do the rematch in vegas to build cotto's name... and i know mosley want the rematch... i htink ive heard him say it in an interview somewhere
He wants the reamtch, but at first I thought Mosley won, but I soon realized Cotto won. It was close but it was obvious, years ago it could had been different. But Cotto is getting better and I believe he will shut Margo out, unless he gets hurt. But I wish Floyd fought these two, but will still may see a fight with Cotto. Because deep down I know Floyd thinks about it
i thought it was a draw personally... cotto was doing too much running them last cpl rounds for me.. i think prime for prime mosley would have won.. cotto just won because he was younger and more hungry @ the time... and theres a yt vid of floyd talking about fighting cotto.... check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wddwbK3oE4I
"With the fight only 11 days away it's tough to say what the exact numbers will be, but when a fight is a hot ticket in Vegas it's usually hot from the get-go and with it only being a week-and-a-half away I can't see any way that's it a sell-out," he said. "We could end up papering the place on fight night."
Like I said and have been saying. Floyd was carrying boxing. With Oscar and Floyd gone there is really no new faces and interesting personalities to bring the sport to the average fan. Bob Arum should be paying me for how hard I've been promoting this fight to my friends, they have somewhat knowledge who Cotto is, they have no idea who Margarito is. Even latino friends I have from New York and Cali dont care. This fight is gonna be great and its gonna fly under the radar of mainstream sports America, just like Vasquez/Marquez trilogy. The promotion by Arum and company has been abysmal.
in todays society... people are scared to take risks.. they only invest money into things they DEFINITELY know will turn that money back over.. in film, music, clothing and all other forms.. there is NO garauntee that the mainstream audience will bite on this fight... so thats why everyone is scared to invest into it
The truth is most people have never heard of Cotto or Margarito. When they do get a chance to look at these fighters they're generally disappointed, at least in my personal experience. I tried to turn some of my friends and family on to these guys and they were far less than impressed. This is a fight for the fans. Boxing fans.
well i wouldn't blame cotto as much as marf=garito on this one! margs the one no one outside boxing really knows!
Well maybe if their names were Miguel Mayweather or Antonio Mayweather things would be different.....and dont blame the "economy" on this fight not selling.....because this is the same ECONOMY that allowed Trinidad-JONES to do over 500,000 PPV Buys:rofl To quote Steven A. Smith "the fact of the matter is" ......NOONE besides Internet boxing fans know who Miguel Cotto is.....noone knows who Margarito is....I am not denying that this may be a FIGHT OF THE YEAR candidate but people want to SEE STARS when they go to fights, Mayweather is a STAR....RJJ is a STAR...DE LA HOYA is a STAR......Cotto has yet to reach that status!!!...deal with it!! And it doesnt help that Margarito has 5 losses.
its because BOXING doesnt have drawing power... nobody, and i mean NOBODY i know that ISNT already an established boxing fan who buys every fight anyways even know who cotto IS... im sorry but its the truth... even my friend juan, whos a big sports fan doesnt know who cotto is... Its not eather cottos or margaritos fault... its boxings and the promoters fault.
Should be a good enough link. http://www.boxingnews24.com/2008/07/cotto-vs-margarito-failing-to-generate-interest/
That's all fine and dandy but what you fail to realize is trash talk and personality sell fights.:deal You might not like it but it's the truth.
