Both of these guys are regional fighters at best. They aren't superstars and are really unknown to the casual sports fan. I don't see why everyone is so surprised by this???
you're right. i think it was a bad move on arum's part to put this fight in vegas. MSG would have been sold out within a few days of putting tickets on sale. i understand arum is trying to get Cotto fans in Vegas, but tickets would only sell out there of Tony was bringing in a lot of fans, which he clearly isnt. in order to sell out vegas with Cotto, he needs someone in the ring who is extremely popular. but, like i said in another thread, i could careless on how many tickets have been sold or how many ppv there will be. i'll be watching it.
When did stephen A. say all of this???? the prince fight wasnt ppv and the anthony henshaw fight was on showtime during another major hbo fight its unfair to compare hatton or calzaghe because they bring something else to the table then most boxers.. hatton & calzaghe represent a whole country.. when they fight its basically the uk vs that fight because in the fighting world.. like it or not the uk is the minority so the uk gathers behind there fighters and show true love... fighters from the states or latin american countries dont so much represent the minority in the sport of boxing so the fighters dont represent a place... they just represent themselves unless the fighter is from a major marketable city such as new york, vegas, LA, id even put miami in there seeing how kimbo sold out the miami arena for his fight against that fat guy...
He didn't. He's just mocking Smith's trademark "The fact of the matter is" phrase. Actually they both were low budget PPVs.
At first I thought it might be a good idea to have Cotto try and fight in Vegas to increase his exposure but then I thought about it and it became quickly apparent that it wasn't a good idea. The fight should have been in either NYC or LA and it would have done great especially in NYC.
should have put this fight in msg... would have helped alot and have a bomb ass undercard.... maybe put some up & coming welterweights on there
This is true. Lets say you live in NC. And you want to see this fight in Vegas. We are talking about 700.00 round trip for a flight, and lodging Fri-Sunday. Then, another 250.00 for a decent seat. And this is if you are traveling alone. 950.00 plus another 200 minimum spending cash, if you drink cheap and eat at buffets.
lern i do believe the topic title is tickets not as hot as someone predicted and i offered reasonable explanations as to why this is the case (marg and cotto arent big names) i never in any way criticised them as fighters or said i wasnt looking forward to the fight
If it were Floyd and Cotto ... that fight would do 1m buys ... but we'll see if Cotto v Margarito does 1/2 that ... I doubt it ...
