They promised me Cotto and they'd better deliver," said Margarito, now 36-5 with 25 knockouts. "I want to be prepared for anyone, especially Margarito," Cotto added.
The only time Margarito has ever faced anyone with any kind of body attack was when he jumped to 154 and fought Santo's and it took him out of his game. Every other top drawer fighter he has fought have essentially been head hunters and Margarito has more chin than a Chinese phone book. I do not think that Margarito's reach or height advantage will play out as an advantage and may even be a disadvantage in this fight. Margarito fights one way and one way only and I dont believe for a second that he will fight or rather box with Cotto. I also dont believe Cotto will be interested in Margarito's noggin other than to set something up. Margarito is about to face one of the best body punchers on the planet with deadly accuracy and with his lanky frame on the inside which is where this fight takes place Cotto has an acre to play with. Just a newbie opinion
I can't see Cotto fighting anybody else since PBF and Hatton don't seem willing to fight him. Antonio Margarito is the obvious choice. Cintron is also a good choice, but Margarito is a better one. Mayorga is an interesting fight.
I think Cotto will win in a very tough fight with Margarito, forcing the Bigger fight will Mayweather
I'm Mexican but I have to go with the Puerto Rican on this one though it would suck watching a fighter I like as much as Marg loose though. If Marg wins it would still be cool but I would feel like the rug got pulled from under my feet.
Cotto gets a clear UD in a very entertaining fight, Cotto will just beat Margarito to the punch all night, keep Margarito guessing by switching up styles, one round he'll stay on the outside and box him behind his jab, the next round he'll fight him inside and land vicious left hooks to the body then get out of dodge before Margarito could counter and then switch to southpaw on him and befuddle him like Williams did. It will be a great fight, but Cotto clearly gets the UD when the scorecards get tallyed up.
I'd go with Cotto at this point in time, although this fight is no gimme. Cotto would definitely have to box in this fight in order to win and that's what I think he will do. As much power as Cotto has, I don't think he will knock Margarito out as Margarito has a granite chin. Cotto was able to hang in there with Mosley who probably has just as much power as Margarito, but he also has better boxing skills than Margarito. This will be an awesome fight for the fans.
:bart Well let's see. Mosley has KO ONLY one opponent (who by the way was shot as hell) of his last 11 opponents in the last 6 years. Margarito has KO 8 of his last 11 opponents.
Damn WAR! Cotto will dismantle Margarito round by round. Cotto will be hurt but will survive and stream roll over Margo in the later rounds. Decission or T/KO Cotto.
It matters plenty. Who is the hardest puncher Cotto has faced? Torres? What happened in that fight? How much better is Margarito than Torres? How much bigger and longer is Margarito? How can you say it doesn't matter???
Yep, that is very true and very good points. Mosley doesn't just come straight at his opponents like Margarito does, Mosley uses his boxing skills and doesn't pay much attention to the KO (although he did in his last fight) as much as Margarito does. Margarito just comes right at you and throws bombs like crazy.
Throwing bombs like crazy isn't good for Cotto who has shown to have a shaky chin. Mosley even hurt Cotto to the body and Mosley wasn't throwing half of what Margarito throws. I give Cotto the slight edge, but I would not count out Margarito at all. Margarito can end it with a left right left combo at any given time. Margarito is made of steel.
