I really don't get why people are up for this. I like Mayorga and all the bull**** which comes along with him but come on. He weighed in at what 162 for his last fight and looked fat. You really think he has the desire to make 154 any more? He would put on masses of weight come fight night and would be very slow. Against Michael Walker he must have absorbed what 60-70% of his punches, some of them willingley. You really think he could do that against Cotto? Give Cotto someone who deserves it like Powel, Maritsyon or someone like that. I mean even stylistically he doesen't match up well against Cotto to me- his punches are far to wide. I just don't like to see fighters like this recycled over and over based on name. If he had lost to big name recenty while being competitive then fair enough but whats he done? Got beasted by Oscar about 4 years ago and beat Fernando Vargas? He could last a few rounds mabye but thats it. Cotto is my fave boxer at moment and this is the one fight being talked about with him which would not excite me in the least.

I say this is a great fight for Cotto. I was a bit apprehensive about this choice, as a Cotto fan and as a boxing fan in general, but it makes sense. Cotto needs to be in a physical fight again to fight if he has to and box when he needs to, so that he can prepare for the relentlessness of Margarito. Foreman was a great showcase of his improved sharpness and technical discipline, but it's good to get him in there with someone who won't back down from a jab or two. Mayorga isn't the same as he used to be, but he won't be a walkover. Confidence building and a step back into a role necessitating perseverance will prepare him for Margarito and elite competition down the road.

I suppose if it happens I would put quiete a bit of money on it. Very confident Cotto will win this. I mean its a risk fighting at 154 considering he was small at 147 but can anyone actually imagine him losing to Mayorga?
