Here's what I came away from my second viewing with: Still very solid on Cotto winning the 6th and 8th. Still very solid on Mayweather winning the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. A little less solid on Cotto winning the 3rd and 9th. In the third I think the sudden emergence of Cotto's jab as a very effective weapon and the appearance of Floyd's blood may have played a factor. In any event, it was a close round and I'm not prepared to say my initial scoring was wrong. Still lean Miguel's way. In the 9th, Lederman claimed that Cotto "blew it" by not attacking like crazy. That's stupid; he would have been torn up with counters. It isn't like Mayweather was gassed, and all Cotto's momentum from the 8th dissipated during the stool break. It would have been monumentally dumb to assume he could just jump on him and wail away with any success. Cotto actually boxed beautifully in the 9th and made Mayweather miss a lot as the stalker. It was Cotto's defense that really impressed me in the 9th, especially coming off his best offensive round in the 8th. Still OK with my original scoring, not changing it, but can definitely see where people come up with 118-110 and am open to those cards as valid. Giving Cotto more than four or less than two rounds is all that's wrong.
118-110 Mayweather. Rounds 6 & 8 to Cotto. There were two other rounds which I would normally score a draw but as Nevada doesn't allow I think I thought Mayweather may have just shaded them. Best I could see Cotto being scored is 112. Cotto put on a lot of pressure but Mayweather's defence made the difference in most of the rounds; Mayweather blocked most shots on the ropes and then hit Cotto with a lot more crisper shots. I wanted Cotto to win but I thought Mayweather was the clear winner.
Man you may as well have just given PBF the shutout, because if Cotto were only to have gotten one round it wasn't the 7th. Couple good body shots, but May outlanded him three to one in power punches!! How do you give Cotto the 7th but not 6th or 8th? :think
If you showed Floyd the film, he wouldn't give himself the sixth or eighth. He'd have himself 118-110. :deal (since he isn't going to give Cotto the benefit in a close round 3 or 9 :yep)
8-4 or 7-5 for Floyd is about right! I could even see a draw... Close fight! Floyd landed more, Cotto landed the harder shots!
Bama is a ****. He had his score card filled out already! :-( Cotto ****ed Floyd up in the 8th round...
In some rounds Floyd landed the harder shots. It was always competitive, though. Cotto already had Floyd's respect, but he would have earned it last weekend even if he hadn't.
