casual fans who are remotely aware of who Cotto is will remember him for losing badly to Manny Pacquaio. They see this as a leftover fight. Even though Cotto redeemed himself the 2nd time around for Margo II its because Manny already put the serious hurt on Margo. They remember Pac f'n up Margo pretty badly. So badly that he got eye surgery to fix his orbital bone. They will sniff through all the BS about how this fight was in the making for 5 years. Only Cotto knows the real answer as to why this fight didn't happen. He can go on record and say that Arum protected him, he wasn't ready or obviously that Mayweather didn't fight him in his prime. I think he'll keep his mouth quiet on the last suggestion Mayweather will try to sell it to the public that Cotto is a good boxer (which he is given the type of opponents) at 154. But the fact remains, PacquiaoCotto win will always be the better win no matter how you look at it. UNLVESS, FLoyd does the unbelievable and knocks Cotto out which is possible. The undercard is even worse. Shane Mosley? Really, the guy who ran from Manny and he's still fighting? Everybody has vowed not to watch his fights anymore. He's a shell of himself. His stamina isen't even good enough to be on a ppv fight. Canelo. Good fighter. They'lll probably put him in with Mayweather Jr. after May 5th. Should he win by any means when he faces Mosley. No reason to think Floyd won't make ti. I think as the fight draws near, casual fans will have to choose between May 5th or June 9th since they will be stingier with their wallets. The casual fans will want to see Manny Pacquao, no matter how you dice and slice it. If they can tune in to watch Clottey who has as many fans as Tim Bradley, they'll tune in to Manny/Bradley. Who cares about the sh*t undercard sine people don't pay any attention to them anyway. The Pac/May fight should have been Filet Mingon. May/Cotto will end up like Chuck Roast. Speaking of The Pac/Bradley fight,, the fight fans will have to settle with Ribeye. ITs still a good fight and obviously its worth watching and ponying the money up. We'll see who does a better marketing job. the GBP promotions that I have seen look very cheap. I know they don't have the coffers to put up the money to promote this fight around Vegas. What big fights were they able to cash in on and make a decent profit? Good luck trying to pump up and sell your fighters. Fact is, Mayweather?Cott will not stand up toe Pac/Bradley.
Bull**** - Stopped reading after your first sentence. Casual fans just know that Cotto is legit, and they obviously care more about Mayweather anyway. The fight with Victor Ortiz did well, and nobody even knew who Ortiz was. Granted Cotto is not Mexican, but with Alvarez on the undercard vs. a "known" opponent, and the 5/5 date, enough Mexicans will buy.
you sound ridiculous. Cotto has a fan base. He did 400k with Margo. Mayweather does at least a mil every fight because he only fights once a year. People have been wanting to see this fight for a while, even if it's past it's best time for it. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it outsells Pac-Bradley.
Didn't read...we'll let the numbers speak for themselves, but based on the title, you're in for a surprise.
it will be bigger than it should for the wrong reasons.... supply and demand and the **** ton of advertising thats gonna go along with it the fight should actually be good, but people want to pay for pac mayweather not mayweather vs the guy pac beat
If the farce pac vs mosley can do around a 1m according to reports, i'm sure mayweather vs cotto will sure as hell be ok. But i know you will be praying every night till end of may that the numbers are ****.
More people buy fights to watch these guys lose than to support anyone. It will sell just fine. Cotto will be a rejuvenated dragon standing 8 feet tall buy the time HBO finishes hyping the fight. Many people will want to see if the popular Alvarez can put a big name on his resume. It's not competitive but I don't blame Mayweather for screwing Arum on this one. Pac don't need an army of scrubs promoting him on the web.
The TS is way off.. He is not taking in to account that Cotto is the #3 ppv draw and Shane Mosley is the #4 PPV draw in boxing.... I see this fight doing around 1.7
