In my opinion....yes that fight established Cotto as a force at welterweight...good solid fight...however when Cotto got wobbled in the 11 (I believe) the ref got a towel to wipe some water on the floor in Cotto's corner...who knows...but a good fight non-the less. Thoughts please brothers... Dipset4Ever
It deserved a rematch in the sense that it was a very, very good, competitive bout to watch. What should be noted in this bout is, Mosley was feeling the pace in this bout as early as the middle rounds before he got a second wind, if I'm remembering correctly.
Good fight. Showed some of these fighters' massive flaws though. Cotto fading late in fights and Mosley having trouble winning rounds against someone who moves around the ring. i think it warranted a rematch, esp. after Mosley beat Margo & Cotto beat Clottey.
I don't disagree...but it was a very good fight...enough to call for a rematch...I feel. Good post.:good
A rematch just because Mosley did well but not enough is not warranted. If it was controversial ok but it wasnt.
Close fun fights always deserve rematches. I would have loved to see a rematch, if Mosley pressed the attack more often this fight could have been his. For some stupid reason Mosley decided to box rather than be aggressive, it was proven at the time already that Cotto doesn't do well against consistent pressure.
I was generally impressed with all Cotto's fights during this time frame, Judah was another very entertaining fight!, i happen to agree that this did deserve a rematch, but the WW division was brimming then and there was lots to be getting on with! Controversy ?, im not sure but it was a close fight, i gave it to Cotto when watching live, i didnt score the fight but felt Cotto won the fight
Cotto wasn't wobbled, he decided to change tactics and box off the backfoot to counter instead. Funny, same thing he happened in the Kelson Pinto fight. In the 2nd round there was an exchange of punches, then shortly afterwards Cotto started to fight off the backfoot. Lampley and Steward both were saying Pinto landed something that had Cotto thinking twice and even hurt him. Less than a minute later Cotto drops Pinto with a counter left hook while fighting with his back against the ropes. Skip to 4:20 on the Youtube timer... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5wC7IY3ybo[/ame] Also, the ref only stopped the action after Shane slipped and motioned the ref towards the wet spot himself. This content is protected People try to make it seem as if the ref gave Cotto a momentary reprieve in that sequence, when one wasn't even needed and the break in action was initiated by Shane himself. Anyway, that was a close fight, but a clear win for Cotto. Something that Shane even admitted to after the fight. A rematch would have been welcomed, though I'm not sure if an immediate one should have been in order.
After Mosley best Margarito in 2009, would of been good to see this rematch rather than Cotto v Clottey
Of course it did. If a guy can win 11 1/2 rounds and get kd one time and "deserve" a rematch, then this fight deserved a rematch.
