I thought I'd never say it but I'd have to go with Pac by KO. I don't think Cotto would be able to deal with Pac's speed and he would get caught and stopped.
At 147, I would say Cotto would beat Pacquiao..but then again it took Cotto about 10 rounds to beat Zab. Anything lower than 147 I think Cotto has a hard time vs Pacquiao
After what Pac has done in the past year it's too hard to not pick him. Cotto doesn't have the best wind and we haven't really seen power from him lately. Pac is a tazmanian devil he moves so well and in all directions, plus those hooks are awesome left and right
as much as i hate to say it, i think pac would get a t/ko. he would definitely have a far harder time with cotto (obviously) as he could really hurt pac given the chance to score solid shots, but i dont know how many chances like that he would get. either way someone would be getting knocked out. its too early to call right now, though. lets see how cotto looks against clottey first.
Seriously, Bob Arum shouldn't make this happen. Cotto is not a joke, he would probably smash Pacquiao.
Pac has always handled left handed fighters with ease. Oscar, Barrera, Hatton, etc. Its the ones with great right hands that give him trouble. Before sat i said Cotto wins a close one on size, but now that I see how Pac is filling out I think he would beat Cotto by decision.
I'm a huge fan of Pacquiao but Cotto's precision and timing is that of JMMs.. he would hit Pacquiao hard and often.
I mean, Pacquiao is a great fighter and all, and he's the best p4p on the planet, of that there's no doubt now. But Cotto in my opinion would end his ride quite dramatically. Cotto is much bigger and stronger, and people forget how good Cotto is technically, he hit Margarito with everything but the kitchen sink and he outboxed Mosley who is a brilliant boxer himself. Cotto is not a joke, like I said... and if the fight happens, I will pick Cotto by mid-late round TKO.
no. i don't think that cotto is as precise and as good in timing as jmm. jmm is the ultimate technical and textbook counter-puncher. cotto real advantage against pac is only his size. if this fight were at a catchweight of 143, i give pac a very good chance to win this, even via stoppage. as long as their difference in fighting weight is 5 lbs. or less, pac can win vs. cotto. hatton had a 4-lb weight advantage on pac during their fight.
This fight shouldn't happen. Cotto is too big and too strong for Manny. Manny is an amazing fighter and is on one hell of run, but I'd hate to see him get rolled by a fighter he should never have stepped in the ring with in the first place. There's weight classes in Boxing for a reason, and Manny has been skating through them impressively with little to no trouble. But taking on a big welter near his peak, with an advantage in virtually every category save speed and arguably defense, could be asking a bit too much for a fighter who's only fought above super featherweight three times. I'd rather see Manny fight someone closer to his own size, like a Valero, Guzman, Khan, Soto, or even a third fight with Marquez. Though I know those fights don't make the most sense economically and have little to no chance of materializing. It's just that eventually I feel Manny is going to lose, and not to because of being an inferior fighter, but because he's the smaller fighter. However, I don't think Arum is being truthful when he says Pacquiao will fight Cotto in December. Cotto has pretty much said he's going to self promote or go with another promoter when his contract expires at years end. I can't imagine Arum feeding Cotto his biggest cash cow when he knows he's going to jump ship, regardless. Unless he sees the Cotto fight as a a sure win for Manny, which I doubt it. My guess is he's using Cotto as a bargaining chip for Mayweather-Pacquiao before talks are even underway.
