The current Calzaghe could lose though. Prime Calzaghe beats Cotto going away however, the superior power and speed, mixed with the stylistic oddity for Cotto of course.
That is completely not the case, I don't want to see him lose 'anyone'. I want to see him rated accordingly, which he has been rated accordingly for the most part in the last few years. People like you and the filipino fanbase here blow him way out of proportion on what he is capable of out of absurd fandom, ignoring proper analytical outlook. :yep Right, both are also a lot bigger than Pacquaio and quick in their own right, vs. a 140 and 147 version of Mayweather, not the prime, supernatural, 130 pound version of Mayweather who didn't drop many rounds to anybody. The 130 pound of Mayweather, vs. the 130 pound version of Manny Pacqauio is the fantasy match up that we are discussing here. What does Corley vs. Mayweather at 140 prove in this bout? Corley is an entirely different style to Pacquaio, not on his level, but much larger than him as well and Mayweather got tagged by some shots in a bout that he was looking to impress and tattoo Corley with combinations. Judah, at 147, an even better fighter than Corley, had some success early by moving in behind good boxing skills, beating Mayweather in the speed department and landing some hard counter punches and getting out of the way, once Mayweather adjusted, Judah was taken apart and taken to school for the rest of the fight. Neither of them represent the stylistic match up, neither of them faced the very best version of Floyd Mayweather, which was at 130 pounds. Pac on the other hand, unlike them, has a very leaky defence technically and is vulnerable to counter punchers as displayed in multiple fights. Mayweather would take him apart and destroy him mid rounds, this isn't even a contest. Only Judah was doing it behind a well schooled defence and superior timing and power, not to mention SIZE. Floyd would fight Pac adequatley and Pac would not be fighting tactically correct when he's being countered, then getting wild and sloppy in response out of desperation. Floyd would not have to adjust vs. Pacquaio, his own speed, timing and defence and size gives him such an edge to start with, that Pac is not going to have an answer to it. This is common sense ****. You won't find 5 reasonable posters here that would say Floyd(130) vs. Pac(130) would be the least bit competitive. This is not bias or dislike. I don't even like Floyd and detest much of his run, this is common sense ****.
cotto would use a strategy like morales in their first fight with pac. that is, use movement and a constant jab to break pac's rythm, and try to back him down. on the other hand, pac's hand speed and power could very likely cause cotto's problems, like zab did when he buzzed cotto several times. but how would intangibles like physical dimensions come into play? most of morales succes was because his long jab would keep pac at bay, and would work from there.
I watched RJJ vs Hall again the other day. Other than Ali vs Williams, I can't think of any other performance by any fighter approaching that level of artistic dominance.
So Floyd KO Pac easy yet guys like Hernandez, Pep & Cuello goes the distance with Floyd? This is another classic case of overrating a fighter at his lighter weights. A bit like saying Pac must have been a killer puncher at 106 if hes still a big puncher at 130lb! The truth is, fighters carry their power. Floyd at 130lb for the most part was fighting bums, and he was Knockin out bums making his power look impressive. Had he been fighting ATG's at 130lb, those fight would be equally as competetive as his fights with Judah & ODLH. 135 is what some refer to as Floyds prime, Castillo's strength bullied Floyd around the ring and made the fight very competetive. At 130lb, Pac holds a big size advantage over Floyd at 130lb, and ALOT more experience too. Who knows if Floyd at that weight had the mental fortitude he has now. Watching some of Floyds older fights at 130lb, his power is being extremely overrated by many. He was a good puncher then but nowhere near the monster puncher you guys make him out to be, I guarantee had he been fighting elites at 130lb he wouldnt look that great a puncher. He was able to hit his then C level opponents at will, hit them with 100 power punches and if they had a crap chin put them away much easier. This all goes back to the skill/power/speed/chin attributes being relative to the opponent. A fight between an elite and another will always be competetive.
Pac is average height for his weight, so is Cotto. Morales who was a LW is infact taller than Cotto, so if we were to rate this on all things being equal, Cotto would probably make a 5'5-5'6 SFW or Pac would make a 5'7-5'8 WW as we have to down/upscale the fighters size aswell as their attributes when going up and down in weight. Pac would also be a big WW probably weighing 160lb on fight night. Cotto will not have that reach advantage which Morales used and Morales also had the unbreakable chin which nullified Pacs power, whereas Cotto has shown himself vulnerable in that area on more than a few occasions. Which is why I think Pac would have Cotto's number. If I was to compare Cotto to anyone, it would be MAB who he is most simmilar to out of the big 3.
