Trinidad would have beaten Cotto down the stretch. The only worry for Trinidad has to be his vulnerability during the early rounds. He was dropped by very average fighters around half a dozen times at 147lbs. But he did show good recovery powers and usually came back stronger. Cotto has never shared a ring with any opponent who punches like Trinidad. Margarito does have have good power, but nothing as authoritive as Trinidad's. Over the last 20 years, Trinidad is easily among the most powerful welterweights. Also one of the most vulnerable to hitting the canvas considering his status as a champion.

Cotto's jab and lateral movement would be vital on offsetting Trinidad. He's got the speed to make things interesting. Trinidad has always been open to shots up the middle, especially the jab. I can see Cotto catching Trinidad with jabs and generally outscoring him during the early stages. Trinidad was patienet and once he sussed his opponent out, he countered well with hooks and other heavy artillery. Trinidad has the type of power that 'short circuited' an opponent. As soon as they felt his power and were hurt, that was as good as the end.
