Vargas would knock Cotto out, objectively speaking. I've followed both, and there is zero doubt in my mind about that. I'm confident MOST of the people voting (that aren't fanboys or nationalists) and claiming Cotto, are not familiar with Fernando Vargas and his era. More skilled than Cotto, as well as more powerful, explosive, fast, and overall dynamic than Cotto, all the way. I would have loved to see this fight, but it would have been anticlimactic. I've posted this Vargas highlight before, I'll post it again - not that a highlight can tell us anything, good show though. Better to watch this on the HD big screen on the page, better picture. Double click, recommended. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1dKy-Uip_k
Good fight..for about 6 rounds. Vargas takes over and stops Cotto though. He was fairly competent stand up boxer himself..He would have been the physically stronger and harder puncher in there. Pre-Tito Vargas was decent..very decent. If he can deal with Quartey like that...I cannot see what Miguel is going to do in there against him.
Lots of excellent **** in this vid, but the 10 punch combination at 2:48 is :deal The moment where he throws about 8 consecutive powerful hooks wasn't so bad either. I remember that fight. Miss Vargas. Tremendous fighter.
Did you see the Trinidad fight? Or have you just chosen to ignore it? That fight ruined him. His chin was fine before that; some of those punches he took from Tito would have decapitated some fighters. Vargas from the Tito fight and before, heck maybe even the De la Hoya fight, would waste Cotto. Just look at what he did to Quartey, a fighter of similar styles to Clottey.
**** he's already done it to others why not do it to where Tito was textbook low blowing against the same opponent. Cotto would see how it affected Vargas and do the same and hope for the best.
Not to mention if anyone has a questionable chin here it's Cotto. He's been seriously hurt by light punching 140 pounders that he outweighed by 17 pounds.
