What makes Cotto so formidable of an oponant? The fact that a lot of people think he has what it takes to beat the likes of the now retired Mayweather Jr? Seriosuly, I mean the guy is a fan-effing-tastic fighter, but he has shown just as much weakness as anyone else.

By "all" you mean who exactly? Old Shane Mosley or the "never really was but could have been" Zab Judah, two guys that he had to punch in the balls repeatedly? Or wait, Quintana, whom he beat but not in spectacular fasion...... Ohhhhh Paulie....or Maybe Torres....Ouch sensitive subject. WAIT WAIT!!!! Oktay Urkal!!!

Seriosuly? what the ****, besides fanfair, makes him so effing unbeatable?

Wether he can beat floyd or not does not matter, win or lose he earned the shot to fight the champion of the division.

Cotto destroyed quintana, quintana doens't want anything to do with cotto ever again, yet he wants a third fight with williams.

Everyone knows I thought little of Q's upset over Williams. It was clear as day that Williams underestimated Q. By account he hadn't even sparred with southpaws. What more do you need? He ballooned up in weight also which should tell you that he didn't train the best.

This rematch was probably the best training camp Williams has ever had in his life. On the night of the fight he was reported to be 156lbs, or around there. That is 6lbs lighter than he was against Margarito.

The rematch set everything right. Much to the dismay of many Cotto fans, Floyd fans and Margarito haters. To them everything hinged on Williams being an overrated bum. And they got slapped for that stupid assumption.

Williams is a legitimate top level welterweight. And at this stage I would pick him to beat Cotto while using the same strategy he employed against Quintana. He can take a helluva punch, has the length and the power to put most welterweights down. All he needs is the right formula of sparring and training. I think he has it.

IF Cotto beats Margarito he will earn the appropriate respect.

He has to prove that first.

If you don't know why Cotto is such a formidable opponent, then I don't think you really pay that much attention to him.. Yes, he has shown weaknesses, but he improves after each and every fight.. He's been through adversity, but has overcame them and his skills are amazing.. Do you not think he could've been a threat to Mayweather? And what makes Williams such a formidable opponent? What has Williams done besides revenge his loss to Quintana to prove he's one of the best? Cotto has already proven himself..

Cotto wasn't the best at 140.. You should know that.. Has he been down since Torres? No. He's a beast at 147.. Not beating Quintana in spectacular fashion? Don't know if you're trying to compare victories against mutual opponents or not, but Cotto looked pretty impressive to me against Quintana.. I take it you're not such a big fan of Cotto..

To be fair I will say that I think Q underestimated Williams' punching power in the rematch. Williams by our account looked weak but in the ring Q felt he could take what Williams threw. So he tried to do the same thing in the rematch and got knocked out.

Despite that the result would have been the same if Q respected his power. He would have just been outboxed by the taller, younger opponent.

However lets not say Q underestimated Williams by much. The first fight was still a close affair. I could see if it was a total blowout.

Quintana came out more aggressive, he tried fighting on the inside instead of throwing his lead looping lefts like the first fight.

    I gotta correct you there.

Quintana did exactly the same thing he did in the first fight. He was jumping in with the lead left. And that is precisely why he got caught.

In the first fight Williams was giving up his height and Q was banking on that so he could close the rest of the distance and get his left off first. In the rematch Williams did not take that step and it forced Q to go further with his lead left. That made him more transparent and that allowed Williams to crack him with a solid left before Q could land with his own left.

That is how distance works. Even if the smaller man is faster if the taller man plays his cards right he can neutralize that speed advantage by making the smaller man go a further distance. Williams was on the money in the rematch. That completely attributed to Q getting knocked out.

i honestly don't know how many people would have said williams was under-rated like you're doing now after he beat margarito but before the quintana fight.

i've always believed williams could give anyone problems and i still think that.

cintron lost both matched to margarito simply because antonio was too big and he muscled him. cotto's also a big welter - but oscar is likely to fight the marg - cotto winner now that he's said he has one fight left.

the reason is that the winner of cotto - marg wasn't in oscar's window if he was going to have 2 more fights. and with hatton and floyd out the picture that limits his big money fights.
