Yeah, because I'm sure Williams would make all the same mistakes that he did against Quintana. I guess that's why Cotto is fighting some scrub for William's vacated belt, and why Arum wouldn't allow him within 100 yards of Williams even after Williams beat Margo.

Don't blame Cotto for that scrub bull****...Blame Arum. Cotto wanted a bigger fight. Arum gave him an ultimatum.

I'm not blaming Cotto for anything. However, it's pretty clear that Top Rank has never had any intention on matching Cotto with Williams. That should tell you something about Cotto's chances to beat Williams.

That should tell you what ARUM thinks Cotto's chances are...not everyone elses ideas.

The poll is pretty close...so I think it speaks for itself.

Cotto getting a bit underestimated here. Margarito fought very differently vs. Cotto and Williams, was much more aggressive and took more risks (and every shot Miguel threw) to apply more and more pressure and set a much faster pace - and it payed him off. Also, Margarito's weaknesses and Williams' size and arsenal stylistically favored PW. But Cotto is not there to simply get hit or outjab. He's a smart, although short, but physically very strong, skilled boxer with underrated speed and sense of distance and timing. In those rounds where his stamina was still there, he dominated Margarito more than Williams in any of his clear rounds. Williams doesn't have the same power, stamina and chin to walk though everything Miguel throws and set an insane pace, and that's the only way to beat Cotto, the Judah, Mosley, Quintana, Torres way didn't work. Also, in a Williams-Cotto fight, the style would favor Cotto, Williams' mistakes and problems on his defense would allow Miguel to make it his kind of fight, set his pace and get through with his shots.

Margarito-Cotto: war, and Cotto can't do anything about it.
Williams-Cotto: boxing match, and Cotto is the better boxer. Simple as that.

    Cotto by break-down late stoppage.

I agree. Williams hasn't shown great boxing skills, he just uses his size and activity to overwhelm his opponents. Cotto is a smarter fighter than
Williams and would control the fight and lure him exactly where he wants him.

There was a poll done on this matchup right after Cotto beat Mosely, and Cotto was getting like 70% of the vote. That lets me know that the people on this forum are fickle and don't closely examine these matchups. The people at Top Rank do examine these matchups. Bruce Trampler and co. have studied every WW contender out there. They have a pretty good idea of who their fighters do and do not match up well against. Top Rank has had a couple of opportunities to match Cotto up with Williams and has made no efforts to do so. This lets me know that they aren't confident that Cotto matches up well with Williams. Now common sense would tell you this much. However, not everyone on these forums seemed to be blessed with common sense.

A couple of taps on Cotto's chin and we can see Cotto out of there before the 6th against Paul Williams.

You are overestimating Paul Williams if anything. This is still the guy who got combos dropped on him by a smaller fighter in Sharmba Mitchell. The same guy who struggled with Walter M. The same guy who got outboxed by Carlos Quintana.

I'd make Williams the favorite, but only 60/40. Cotto has fought plenty of tall fighters, the only one he lost to had an incredible chin, which was more a factor than his size.

I could see Cotto troubling Williams with his footwork and handspeed, just as much as I could see Williams troubling Cotto with his reach and activity.

This is a bull**** concept. His chin isn't the greatest, but he's never been KD at WW just yet. He was beaten into submission yes, but KD? Nope...

Sorry...Don't see it happening just yet.

I'm not saying you should be deeply ashamed.

But, you are parroting Rico Spadafora , Eze, Big Red and Neckbreakinakin.

Can't you be the slightest bit original?

    Do you guys hangout together?

He got overconfident....dropped his guard and got caught cold.

    So what?

Thats not Cotto....Cotto is a much better boxer and has never had
    problems with taller fighters.
