It sucks. I just happened to hit a growth spurt mid-year... after I had already certified at a lighter weight. I only had 3.7% body fat.

Yeah... eating only on Sunday's will do that to you.

After weigh ins I would down a powerade... eat a sub... and then sit there as my stomach was in cramps. I ended up screwing up my knee... destroying my ankle... and tearing both rotator cuffs that year. Yet, I wrestled with all of those injuries. It wasn't a fun time for me. However, as Captain of my team I had to push through. The next year, I said **** it... jumped 5 weight divisions up, still was in great shape... and would eat Double Cheeseburgers while standing in line for the weigh ins. I never felt so fresh for my matches. I gave up a lot of size, because there were people cutting down 15 pounds or so to wrestle in that weight division and I was always underweight, but I loved every minute of it.

Pacquiao is the same Pacquiao at 147 as he is at 144 or whatever catchweight people want. He'd probably weigh in at 144 for the fight regardless.

It is only Cotto that is going to be adversely affected and I don't see the point in that. If you want to fight Cotto fight the best Cotto possible. If you don't want to fight the best Cotto because you think he's too big, that is fair enough.

I'd rather just see a fight where both men are at their best in the ring with no excuses. For that reason I hope Cotto insists its at 147lbs or no fight. But then money talks so its doubtful he'll have the resolve to do that.

If you were Cotto, what weight would be the one you would fight Pac at and still have a chance to win the fight.....

..... and at what weight you think the fight could go either way?

I'm old school, so fight sb be at 147 with same day weigh in. But that ain't happening.

enough of the BS, but it's money talking as it is what it's all about.

    Yep but it ain't happening.

Honestly if I were in Cotto's shoes, I would be looking at my risk v rewards regrading my ability to make money, based on the the current landscape. And my future career prospects. He's a big kid making his own decisions based on what he knows hopefully.

So from a pragmatic standpoint, I understand.

From a boxing purist fan standpoint, I prefer same day weighin and beat the bigger man at his weight. For what that's worth,

If you don't belive that the weight will make a difference for Cotto what is your explanation as to why Roach and Manny are so reluctant to let him weigh what a wewlterweight is supposed to weigh?

I believe PAC is the same PAC at 140 or 147 as well, but who am I? I'm not PAC nor am I Roach. The fact of the matter remains that PAC is at 140 and not 147. Cotto loosing a couple more pounds than what he weighed in for the Josh fight doesn't really indicate that he'll suffer adverse affects only having to change some timing within his training camp. And fact is PAC is the smaller man, so if in fact Cotto does suffer taking off a couple of extra pounds by fight night he'll be a could 10 to 15 pounds heavier than PAC. Advantage Cotto. And I'm not sold that the catch weight will hinder anyone from seeing the "Best" Cotto on bit. PAC and his camp seem to believe PAC is at his best at 140 or under. Cotto feels he's at his best at 147 so the catch weight makes perfect sense. Meet in the middle.

I still don't see the whole "if cotto struggles to make Welter he should move up"

as I've heard this before, but when it comes to training camp, making weight is said to be one of the harder things to do.

with that in mind, minus the odd catchweight bout ... why should Cotto move up in weight if he has trouble making 144 like the thread title implies

because yes 144 is Welterweight, however I don't think too many Welter's bother about getting that low in weight, considering the max for Welter is 147

**and other then trying to drain Cotto in weight, what's the point of fighting under 147

as best case scenario for Team Pac is the reduced weight has a negative effect on Cotto and Manny pulls out the win.

worst case for them it does nada, and Cotto is still healthy come fight night

but regardless Cotto will weigh more then Pac come fight night, so this whole "catchweight" will either work to drain Cotto, or not at all, no in between.

**and if you ask me, if it was Mayweather instead of Roach demanding for a catchweight vs Cotto, the board would be up in arms regarding how he is "trying to weaken the opponent even more."
