It seems that referees at Madison Square Garden are oftentimes intimidated by the wild pro-Cotto crowd and become reluctant to deduct enough points for obvious low blows.
There's no question that Cotto will resort to low blows Saturday if he finds himself in trouble.
He doesn't apologize for these fouls.
In this article he almost admits that he does it on purpose.

Cotto is still learning english, he still does not position his words correctly....but I'm not surprised you posted this, fans are sometimes like the media and use any tangible evidence to slander the reputation of a fighter. I've met Cotto before and know people he has sparred with, he's one of the most stand up men you could ever meet.

 

If Cotto does do it, some people might say since him Trinidad low blowed, Ricans are dirty fighters, sad but true. Its important Cotto doesnt fall into a pattern like Tito did with Campas, Reid, and Vargas.

 

Truthfully, he may try it, but it won't work.

Gomez, best PR fighter ever IMO, had some shady tactics as well.

 

I'd say Cotto will low-blow Mosley around 25-30 times. Expect a Golota-Bowe like ending.

 

Anyone else does it, and it's dirty. Cotto and Trinidad do it and their will to win is commended. It's a despicable tactic as you said but unfortonately it's tolerated more than it should be.
