I thought in the end, Cotto won it with the same scorecard that Lederman gave. Teh fight hinged on the last round and Cotto simply did more. However, Clottey or his fans have nobody to blame except Clottey. In rounds where Cotto was quiet, yet still in it, he was throwing 50 or so punches. Against a top class fighter, this isn't enough to win any fight decisvely. Cotto had his quiet rounds, yeah, but when he did win rounds, he won them big which is what Clottey needed to do and, I think, he could have done. He was far too inactive against an opponent who spent a lot of the fight on the backfoot to protect his eye. Clottey should have won this fight, as he had enough in the tank to steal close rounds, especially the last. However, he didn't, so he is in no place to complain about the decision. Great fight by Cotto though.
I think at the end of the day. Expect for that 6th round (was it the 6th when Clottey was in the corner all round?), Clottey just won the rounds he did and he won them BIG. When Cotto won rounds he squeaked them out.
^^This. I'm gonna re-watch this again. But "Blood boiling" last night, I had Clottey by 1. He was landing the effective cleaner shot's. (Nice body to left uppercuts on the inside all night)
I mean this is ****ing simple really i dont get what the contreversy is. Cotto ran like a ***** and got outlanded. He ran and got outlanded. You cant say he outboxed, you cant say he won.
exactly! the rounds clottey won, he dominated. the rounds he lost, he barely lost because he didn't do nearly enough. he coasted the last two rounds when he could have sealed the deal. for clottey to win you need to give him 7 rounds and there just weren't 7 clottey rounds (unless you're manny steward who score the 6th for clottey despite getting pounded)
Exactly. If Clottey had done more in those last two rounds, he would have won the fight, it's that simple.
Good point to the original poster...BUT TO ALL THE COTTO FANS WHO SAID THE FIGHT WOULDN'T BE COMPETITIVE I TOLD YA'LL MUH FU34AS
Cotto did not win that fight. To call it "boxing", not running, you have to move AND land shots. He ran. He resorted to dirty tactics like he often does when in trouble. In this case low blows, body slams, behind the head punches every time the momentum got away from him. He got out landed. More importantly out landed to the dome! Hey anyone who knows boxing knew Clottey was going to get robbed. In MSG the day before the Puerto Rican Day parade? It was a given. I just think that they should get judges who at least know how to rob a guy respectfully. What the hell was that 116-111 crap? After that ass kicking he put on Cotto, Clottey won't be able to land a fight now. Nobody will risk it. Man he better start talking mad crap and become an *******. They obviously don't come to see Clottey win, but they might come to see him lose?
About round 8,9 i thought Cotto is in deep trouble, he wasnt that confident and got regulary clocked with hard right hands. It really looked like it could be Cotto - Margarito all over again. But when Margarito realized Cotto is in trouble he increased his punch output and didnt give Cotto 1 sec. to revitalize. Thats the difference, Clottey lacks that killer instinct, he played it safe and lost. I also thought Clottey should have used his uppercut more, its a great punch of his, very quick and looks like it has good power. Congratulation to Cotto, he deserved the "W", he really sucked it up and gave it all in the last rounds. Since Cotto has a tendency to get tired late, i was surprised about his stamina this time.
