Im really curious about that. If its not all talk then thats really good. Cotto is one of the many fighters who has an excellent hand and a below average pair to go with that cannon. Man i remember the first time i saw Cotto fight. A prime Cotto was always great to watch. His liabilites made all his fights have you on the edge of ur seat. I think he peaked when he beat Mosley and the Gomez fight. Say what you want about Gomez but he has never been beat like that and he has fought guys at 168 lbs.
Idk, but it was the one where Jim was hyping this guy from Italy. He said that Branco was regarded as the greatest fighters in Italy and was like a movie star over there. Cotto made him look like a chump. In round 6 or 7 Branco grabs his shoulders and call off the fight himself. lol. So much so Italy's fighters.
i got to see cotto last week here in hollywood his jab is looking tremendous and seems to be getting along with steward very well i love cottos selection of music when he trains lavoe victor manuelle gilberto santa rosa :good
I remember watching the padwork he did with his old trainer and it was all about ducking under hooks, problem was he seemed to be leaning forward the whole time, not great balance. Steward has him more upright.
I agree that Margo is probably too strong for him but you think he will put 16 pounds on post weigh in?
:goodAhhh a real Cotto fan you are my man. His mitt work was super slow, all about power and ducking. And yeah he would lean forward alot. Stewart has him working on his footwork, balance and his speed which I love. I didn't see a improvement on his defense yet, but I'm praying to god Stewart helps him out with that. If anything his footwork and defense should be #1 on his "Cotto's To Do List".
Yeah I mean I guess fighting like that can work but Cotto isnt really a short man and has good boxing skills, even agaisnt Margarito I think he was the better pure boxer. So I think maybe becoming mroe of a conventional boxer instead of brawler will be to his benefit.
No doubt about it, Cotto was winning relatively easy until he got hurt midway through the fight. I disagree with those who think todays Margarito could beat Cotto. You only have to look at the fight tape of their fight a few years ago, and then the Margarito that fought Pacquiao. There's a huge disparity in intensity, Margarito clearly isn't the same fighter physically in my estimation. Cotto would win a decision if the two fought today, that's my take.
Biggest difference in that he's not leaning over his lead foot leaving himself open to all kinds of potential punches, especially uppercuts. Cotto has his weight central now, instead over his lead foot.
