Cotto WRECKS the overrated Geale (hyped by GGG fans)

I agree. Cotto is a top fighter. Despite what the haters want to say here.

 

I expected him to beat Geale regardless but knocking him out in 4 is superb, I've always liked Cotto as a fighter, just not this diva crud he's been pulling, exactly the same as Pac and May's weight hysterics. The Martinez win was evidently questionable as Martinez was tripping over his own goddamn legs, not merely after the left hook in round 1. This win, Geale was game and able, the 3 pouinds would not have helped his cause but he blew up ridiculously and the weight advantage was massive, three pound cut or not. It didn't help him. He might have felt a lot more drained than usual but if he approached the fight like that coming in at 159, he'd have been battered, maybe stopped, I don't know how much it effected him, especially psychologically. I think people don't realize how a few pounds can resonate HUGELY in a fighter's performance. He was nothing like a scarecrow but he obviously was drained, why else would Roach make a big deal about it?

When asked who was his hardest fight, Cotto responded immediately, "Mayweather." he went on to say that had he been in the kind of shape against Manny, that he was against Floyd, it "would have been a different fight..." " coming in at 145lbs...You don't feel it so much when training...but come fight night, you feel it in the ring."

I thought Cotto would win in a close decision but yeah.... that was impressive. It was a catchweight and that does detract from the win but to beat him that convincingly I think shows that Cotto would be better even if the fight was fought at 160.

I hope Cotto can grow some ***** after this and not hide behind the whole "I'm not a middleweight" bull**** he was talking tonight. He didn't sound like he was ready for a triple g fight but wanted another fake middleweight in Canelo. And I think Canleo would give him that work but it should at least be a good fight.

Golovkin is not elite until he beats an elite fighter, it's that simple and I think GGG has the goods, if you haven't got the name, you aren't elite though. I think Cotto is a B+

 

90% of the forums here predicted him to lose versus a 50% Martinez, I remember that clearly. He TKO'd Martinez.

Cotto coming in a 153, defeated a 182 pound Daniel tonight, and looked way more impressive, took less punches than GGG doing it.

So they really need to chill and just enjoy the sport, these are great fighters who we will not see for a long time.

After Cotto, Pacman and Mayweather.... the days of boxing PPV's may be over...

He is a great fighter doing great things toward the end of his career with a few footnotes. The weight was an issue, him being a small MW is offset by his 157 clause, Geale coming in huge really does tip the credit a lot more in Miguel's favour if I am honest and objective, and I like Cotto anyway so it's not hard for me to be fair. As for Martinez since we're discussing his recent greatness, I felt he would have a field day if Martinez's knees were screwed, if the Martinez that fought Murray turned up (who already had major problems before the knock down that injured them further) I still believe Martinez would've knocked Cotto out but it wasn't, it was a shadow. He was still game and able don't get me wrong, and Cotto had the ***** to go up and take that risk, he battered him and did what was necessary but it wasn't Maravilla Martinez... nobody should forget that. True, if he'd caught Martinez like that even with knees from the Murray fight, he'd have trouble regaining himself but he did a good job of trying even though it's clear his legs were not under him. Pacquiao's shoulder for example was clearly working fine enough for him to use to a degree of effectiveness, those legs were like a cooked crabs!
