It doesn't only have to be that, some would stop watching because they feel you could no longer call it a macho sport if the top guys could be gay, some stop watching because they don't like gays, some would stop because they're homophobes, some would stop if they feel gays are getting the short end of decisions or vice versa leading to a sport where officiating could even further not be trusted etc.

Many people do not associate themselves now with certain events, shows, etc. simply because they feel they could be looked at as less macho, to think this all would affect nothing shows ignorance and is a perfect world scenario, even your anger tells me you simply don't like the fact I'm right.

 

Gays are often demonized as sissy's, and picked on, how better for them to protect themselves and prove they're not sissy's all in one swoop than to take up boxing?

He is who he is, that's part of life nowadays. Got to give people their props regardless if we disagree with their lifestyle they made that choice and if we live in a society where it is tolerated then that's life

If things worked like that it would have happened already and many gays would have taken up boxing and become champions. Are you saying that has happened and most boxers and champions are closet gays?

To be a top level boxer I think you need to have talent and genuinely enjoy the sport and (although some will) gay men are less likely to have those two things. Wanting to prove you are not a sissy will not be enough.

 

OK, maybe they won't join the sport in spades but if guys that are getting top advertising are gays you would get the same effect. Like there is usually only two ppv guys, if one of them is gay, it could destroy the macho perception of the sport, be called a gay sport, said the sport if for gays etc. We know how the masses minds works, perception is everything, and in this case a gay perception could lead to negative sales.

 

I don't doubt that there are homophobes in this world. And some of them probably watch boxing. Judging by the tone of your earlier posts here you may indeed be one of them.

It's fair for me to speculate that since you're getting angry about things you shouldn't that it may be a touchy subject for you as it hits close to home. You cannot say that I simply have no point, how many men you know have knitting as hobby, are good bakers, are nurses, secretaries, etc. To pretend like there is no preconceived notions in society is just plain ignorant, I have no idea why people argue that a large part of boxing's selling point is about machismo, and that it could be taken by prominent homo***uality at the top, or by large part, makes no sense.

I keep saying it. I say it again. If boxing were run by homo***uals. If it were contested specifically by homo***uals. I would still watch the sport. And I wouldn't really care - I'm not that in to finding out about everyone elses personal s*x lives. I'm just not that guy.

You wouldn't want to watch? That's cool. Go watch another sport. There are loads out there. And by the way, you don't have to be gay to stick up for gays. I really don't think so. People are not that stupid. Boxing could never be considered gay or not macho, it's fighting at the end of the day.

I would not stop watching/buying boxing if one of the top guys were gay, I don't think anybody I know would either. Would you?

Some people might not buy a gay boxers PPV's but I would be surprised. People might buy it just to hope to see him get beat up.

A gay boxer might suffer and get boo'd or whatever but I don't think the sport as a whole would suffer.

If most stopped watching you would have no sport to watch or a lot less of it, that's why it matters. And you can stick up for others but usually people only get angry about it when hits close to home. Like, I'm minority but not black, so yes, I get angry when anyone expresses racism but I don't get angry when people say they don't like blondes because that has nothing to do with me.
