Cottoe's status among some of his deranged fans is unjustified

Cotto is not overated imo. I believe he has earned true boxing fans over by fighting the available best, and never making excuses. His fights are
always exciting and never dissapoint. Is he a p4p ATG, maybe not.
But Cotto fights with a passion rarely found in todays boxing world.
That IMO goes a long way.

Yes, Mayweather should now be favored, and at any point in the past should have been favored over Cotto.

Whether he's a threat to Mayweather, or indeed the welterweight (or now junior middleweight) division at all, has no bearing on his acclaim as a marquee fighter. That was built up - well before both Mosley and Judah - during his storied career at 140, which I advise you educate yourself a bit more on...maybe watch some of it. :good

 

How funny because everything you said about Cotto can be said about Floyd since he moved up from 135 :hi:

 

Cotto has always been overrated by his fans and the media. He's a good fighter but not great. The guy has never won a title that wasn't vacant and has never been the man in any weight class he's been in.

 

cotto was the man at 147 after mayweather retired, why do you think mosley was ranked no.1 at welter? because he beat the man that beat the man.

 

I havn't seen anyone claim Cotto is 'great'. What does fighting for vacant titles actually have anything to do with it? He's faught many world champions.

 

I dont think he was over rated at all, his only two losses, one came at the hands of Margarito and there may be some other circumstances regarding that loss, no proof so we just cant say....
The 2nd loss was to Pacquiao who is P4P #1
I think his rating was accurate.... and I beleive that had he fought DLH at the time Floyd and Manny did, he would have stopped Oscar.... bringing me to this question... how can a win over DLH mean big things for Mayweather and not for any other fighter who has beaten him?

As the Devil's advocate I'm going to say that a case can be made that he lost to two cheaters.

 

Meaning Floyd is still un proven at the higher weight class, while Pacquiao has done better with Both common opponents in DLH and Hatton while at the same time taking out a prime Miguel Cotto and dominating a top contender in Josh Clottey.....

 

Pac beat a clearly shot and drained Oscar, you yourself have stated that in the past.:deal It was painfully obvious, hell even Roach said he could see the IV marks on his arm and knew Oscar couldn't pull the trigger anymore. Oscar was a walking corpse on fight night. Pac weighing more than Oscar on fight night tells you everthing you need to know about his condition that night.

 

Cotto was never linear at 147 he wasn't the champ or the man.:deal

 

This is really the only problem I've ever had with Cotto and his fans. Other than that he is a really solid fighter with a lot of heart.


Still, he does get ridiculously overrated.

 

And Floyd just beat a shot Mosley, still pac has managed to beat far better fighters at the higher weights, while Floyd is still being very selective with who he fights...

 

Don't believe the hype. Cotto has done his share of dicking like everyone else. And his tactics are dirty at times, but his fans refuse to see this about him.


I don't know how he always gets a free pass with all this non-ducking and warrior talk.
