Martinez looked like sh*t folks. IF his knee was in fact alright (which I strongly suspect is not true), that doesn't change the fact that he didn't do sh*t in training camp in order to take it easy on his knee. iirc there was no sparring, fewer movement drills, etc. Not only was he past his prime, he wasn't sharp and he didn't trust his legs. He had no agility. Even if his knee was structurally sound, his agility was gone and he was moving like an old man.

Yuri Foreman's knee was 'fine' for a few rounds as well until it blew out. That doesn't mean it was 100% functional. Same goes for Martinez. Damaged goods. Easy to find, easy to hit, easy to beat.

Don't waste your breathe, we know that's the truth, but Cotto fans like living in their fantasy world trying to convince themselves it was a legit win. They know subconsciously what really happened, but if they admit that to themselves, then they have to admit what we both know Cotto is still the same guy that lost to Trout. They'd rather be in denial.

Cotto is a HOFer but I'm not to high on him although I give Cotto just a bit more credit at 54+ than 47-. Cotto beat his only two current reigning champs at 54, 60
Win over the guy who took his 0 and losses to the #1P4P fighter and a guy rated top 3 at the time intriem titlist.

Cotto has depth at the lower weights but any time you move up and continue to fight champs those bouts start to hold more significants.

I like cotto and was happy - to a point - that he beat Martinez. Because if we are honest - most people thought cotto was going to get KTFO

but I dont think any fighter would have 3 expensive MRI's if ther wasn't a suspicion of something being wrong.

And even if the medical checks were clear it was and is obvious Sergio's knees were shot that night

For the record, while I don't think Cotto can beat GGG, I think he could beat other top 10 middleweights, and could have a great career at 154. It's really a size thing. he's best suited for jr. middle.

You make a few valid points. But what will your opinion be after he beats Alvarez like a drum?

The truth of the matter is, Roach has made him a better fighter. He fixed some flaws that he had. But, I guess you actually have to understand boxing and training to see them.

I think Cotto could have beaten Pacquiao, the problem was he had an incompetent trainer for the fight. Cotto wasn't at his best during that fight, which looked pretty obvious.

His relationship with uncle held him back and it eventually bit in one of his most important fights (Pacquiao) at a time when he really needed a sold trainer. Diaz was a good trainer I think Cotto was a bit overmatched against Mayweather, and fighting Trout was just bad timing.

Im shocked at how cotto gets knocked by some fans. Cotto has been willing to take on all comers and has an excellent resume

Sometimes it's hard to comprehend the reasoning behind these threads. You can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time, Cotto may not be an all time great, but he doesn't have to be, fact is, if the "pound for pound ppv king" had taken on three of Cotto's opponents as willingly as Cotto did, win or lose he'd be unquestionably among the top all time greats. Cotto took on all comers, some of his victories may not be the prettiest, but lets face it, what elite boxer has had every fight be a convincing victory. I believe Mayweather lost to Castillo, doesn't change the fact that he won the fight, but I don't bash Mayweather over it. Canelo lost twice in my opinion, but I don't lose sleep over the fact that he got the decisions. Cottos biggest weakness was his loyalty to his uncle, by the time he figured it out his best years had passed him, a better trained Cotto from early on would probably be undefeated. Either way it doesn't matter, it is what it is and there will always be those who appreciate what he has done and those who hate it.

This isn't meant to trash his whole career. It's to point out that despite not being a very good fighter anymore, Cotto is still going on and getting opportunities/respect that he no longer deserves.

He got beaten by Margarito and Pacquiao, and since then he hasn't been the same. It may look as if he's improved, but ask yourself whether a veteran, nearly old fighter has really improved or if his better performances are a result of decreasing his opposition level.

    Example:
-I fight Mayweather and Pacquiao. I lose.
    -I fight Trout. I lose.
    -I change trainers.
-I fight my sister (Rodriguez) and grandfather (Martinez). I win. And I look damn good if I do say so myself (in the third person, of course, because I'm an arrogant pr*ck).

    Have I improved?

Maybe. But you can't say it based on what I've done. It's manipulation of your perception. Boxing is a levels sport. Cotto has decreased the level of his opponents. Simple. (See: Mayweather, Floyd and Pacquiao, Manny.)
