Well I don't think Clottey is elite.

To be honest though there are no excuses. Great fighters beat great opponents no matter the odds. If he loses then he can't use this an excuse. Especially when he and Evangelista fought heading into the Judah fight.

No excuses for Miggy on this one. Excuses are for Kermit Cintron.

    LMAO @ the cintron line

its not an excuse.. just a distraction ... i mean im sure for a fight of this level you want to be in a great mindstate... this situation probably wont help him focus... especially when cotto seems to be a family guy...

i think clottey is an elite welterweight.... i think anyone that is top 5 of a division is elite in a current sense..... not an all time or a p4p top 10 sense

I guess I can see your argument. Not necessarily sure if I AGREE with it but I can see it. Clottey is certainly a top welter..but I haven't been impressed with the welters lately so perhaps my view is skewered? Regardless he's very good..we can agree.

Just pretend Clottey is Evangelista. Problem solved.

Honestly the key to beating Clottey is the same as it is to beating every turtle show low output heavy handed fighter. Staying active and avoiding the big bombs. If he hasn't figured that out by now and come up with a basic idea as to what he plans to do in there then he's ****ed regardless

yeah thats all im saying.... clottey is definitely good..... but the buzz for welter has died down since floyd retired>cotto lost>margarito lost (again)>paul williams is gone....

the division is basically at the end of the wave but cotto needs to win to maintain his status as one of the top dogs in the sport..... its going to be a crazy fight when it happens... im hoping im in nyc aroudn the time of it... ill def check it out

Punching one of the best fighters in the world is probably not a good idea.

Not to mention Kermie is at 154, Judah is at 140 and Quintana is looking to squeeze himself into a fight with Kirkland at 154. The division is at the end of a tremendous wave but hey, nothing lasts forever.

Honestly you know we've all been there. Had that fight with a friend, gone out to play football or something and trucked over people pretending they were that one friend.

    Good times.

yeah basically.... its crazy that the hottest division goes where the biggest money fighters go

    oscar & floyd @ 147 = best division
    hatton & pac @ 140 = best division

i wonder when lightweight/light welter disperses what will be next

I just hope Miguel don't have any secret's that only Evangelista might know?
Cause if that fight is/was bad as it's being made out to be, then.....
(That goes for anyone you let into your circle)

just sucks that family is involved.
I hope Cotto has his head on for right Clottey.

Cotto will win. He has been having troubles like that for years now.

I dont think it will affect him too badly. Cotto doesnt seem to enter the ring with a game plan. He simply turns up and fights in his style, breaking the opponent down gradually. The result will remain the same, Cotto UD.

Having said all this I believe Cotto should get Richardson in as his trainer so he actually goes in the ring with a gameplan

Clottey is stylistically similar to Margo, which is a warning for Cotto. If Cotto wants to win, he shouldn't be trying to blast him out of there, it won't work. He should be winning rounds and keeping Clottey at bay with well-timed power shots and combos. If Clottey is ready to fall towards the end, sure go for it, but until that point, Cotto should be cautious.

So-called 'distractions' before a fight are all just BS excuses that have little to no importance in the outcome of the fight... but this one is a little different because this happens to be Cotto's trainer. The same trainer who has coached him through most, if not all his entire boxing career.

It will be interesting to see if Cotto could find a replacement, adjust to his new trainer, and formulate a good gameplan for Clottey without having Evangelista in his corner to guide him.
