how does beating someone who is only allowed to weigh (max) 145 pounds make you the welterweight champion?

Then why is Pacquiao wanted to beat Cotto for that tainted belt? Would it be much better for Pacquiao legacy if he beats a true legit title belt that Mosley holds to win his 7th division title belt? You forgot to mention Cotto was coming off a knock out loss to a fighter that might cheated to win it so that fight could possibly be tainted anyway. Also Cotto in his first fight at ww beat a real good fighter in Quintana while Pacquiao first fight at lightweight in which he move up beat a bum David Diaz.

 

The title shouldn't be on the line because Cotto doesn't want it to be a title fight and it isn't a mandatory defense. The thing is this, the WBO is full of a bunch of assholes who are trying to overstep their bounds. I had this conversation in another thread with BigReg, but I don't believe the WBO has the right to make this a title fight, they can strip Cotto, but they can't force the title up for grabs, but we will see.

If I was Cotto I would say **** it and ditch the belt and stop paying fees to the WBO, if Manny wants a 7th title let him fight Clottey for it.

As for Cotto getting the title from Jennings, yeah he did, but he also defended it against Clottey a feat I doubt Manny could accomplish. (I say this even though I believe Clottey clearly won the fight and beat Cotto's ass in the process)

What about Cotto's legacy? Hopkins was ridiculed after he beat Hoya, even though he agreed to a catchweight. Floyd was given very little credit for beating Hatton because Hatton came up a full weightclass. By those standards, Cotto shouldn't get much credit for beating a rising JWW, who was fighting at SFW a little over a year ago.

There is no proof that Margo cheated. Typically, you can't fight for a vacant title if you're coming off a loss.

What makes Quintana so much better than Diaz? Quintana had that nice win over Williams but then was destroyed in the rematch. Quintana is a solid Welter, nothing more.

I can respect that Cotto doesn't wanna pay the sanctioning fees but if someone else pays them then he has no reason not to defend his title.

 

Quintana big wins are Williams and Julio ( who was undefeated and was suppost to be the next Felix Trinidad cause of his style). Name me one fighter that David Diaz beat that is close to Julio, Williams level. I'll be waiting.

 

I they agree to the weight, then yes. However, if Pac has a mando and the mando doesn't agree then the fight would go to a purse bid. Once the fight goes to a purse bid, then the fighters have to abide by the standard rules of the WBO. The WBO states that fighters can't come in over 147 at WW. That's the only rule that would be in place in regards to weight and a catchweight would be unenforceable.

 

Of Course Cotto won't get credit for beating Pacquiao cause you be one of the stupid person that say Cotto beat a miget.

 

Julio is garbage. I don't care how overrated he was, we all know that he isn't that good. The man got a gift split decision over Cosme Rivera for crying out loud. By your logic, we should classify Baldo as a big win for Floyd seeing as how Baldo had just beaten Judah. Remember, Judah was the undisputed champ and top 10 p4p before that fight.

 

There is no proof Margarito didn't cheat in that fight. For god sake man Margarito got caught cheating prior to the Mosley fight. You going to tell me Margarito never cheated prior to the Mosley fight?
