His jab will get him inside where he needs to be. He wont outbox Mayweather so he needs to apply intelligent pressure behind the jab and throw combinations and get out the side. Cottos biggest flaw is that he can be stationary after throwing his pounches, he cant make this mistake against Mayweather, he will pay. He also cant admire his work when he lands something good, he does this, again, he will pay. I dont think that he will beat Floyd, but he can beat floyd if he fights a near flawless fight and stays with his gameplan for all 12 rounds. Problem is we know Floyd will stick to his gameplan and make all the adjustments he needs to as he always does. I cant stand Mayweather, but he is the best and arguably the smartest, most adaptable fighter in the sport.
He has to use the jab very often in this fight and keep his chin tucked when doing so. Boxing off of the backfoot behind the jab and some of his running mixed in with smart pressure beginning with the jab is what he has to do.
its part of it. He needs to apply intelligent pressure. Go to the body a lot and mix up combinations. If Floyd actually decides to stand in front of him and pressure as he's been doing lately it'll make it an easier fight for Cotto. He can use lateral movement and slip in and out with his punches, which he's great at doing. The main thing he needs to watch out for is Floyd straight right . Cotto's been vulnerable to that punch in the past, so he needs to keep his left up high at all times and keep his chin tucked. And be careful whenever he throws the jab that Floyds gonna be looking to counter over it with the right. Floyd's got a bit of a height reach advantage so he's gotta be aware of that right hand at all times. I think Cotto's going to do very well in this fight. The last time he fought a counter puncher was judah and he really took him apart. Cotto eats up guys who cant bully him back. He's a very live underdog.
