Cotto's lack of heart is sad; and he admits it

Dementia pugilistica....Have you ever heard of this......Wilfredo Benitez, Freddy Roach, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Frazier and i'm sure there are a lot more boxers out there that have taken unnecessary trauma to the head.....I don't think that this is the final prize of a boxer buddy !

 

Lack of heart is someone who fights with loaded gloves. How did Cotto become the bad guy here? We have a cheat who likely did this against many unsuspecting fighters and he got away with it. Some people actually think Margarito is some kind of warrior? He is a ***** of the lowest order to what amounts to fighting with a weapon in the ring.

 

boxing is the only sport where people still have this caveman mentality. Every other sport, when people get injured, they pull them out and sub in someone else, no big deal. In boxing its like, Oh your face bones are broken, go ahead and get disfigured more. Oh maybe you have a concision, go ahead and make it worse.

i think the major problem is people tend to try to live through the fighters they watch.

kellerman asked cotto what does he think of margo a guy whos willing to take inhumane amounts of punishment to win a fight?

i think what cotto was trying to say is if thats margos biggest strength, that he takes endless uneeded hits, then he can go right ahead, its his life.

that doesnt mean cotto won't go out their and use margos attitude toward fighting to his advantage.

I understood where Cotto was coming from .So what he doesn't want to die in the ring ? What does that make him less of a boxer ?? The man is still a warrior ..

 

Margarito will never understand because he has no kids. Why doesn't he still have kids anyway? He's been married for like a decade now. Either that couple is planning to grow old without any kids or one of them cannot procreate.

 

Anyone will quit when their opponent uses plaster. The damage was done. So glad Shane and Pacquiao righted it with God though.

 

I think most fighters feel the same way as him, they just don't say it out loud.

 

take a look at the history, boxing is a brutal sport. the nature of it - people find knock outs entertaining and they are part of sport, with knock outs come concussions and all sort of other types of traumas to the brain. not to mention non knockouts and long cumulative damage over time. why don't they wear head gear, more padded gloves? people dont want to see that.

 

Cotto is in his 30s, listening to what he said, his life after boxing and making sure he's able to look after his family seems the greatest priority to him now that he is close to retirement. Can't hold that against him.

Kellerman was right in saying Margarito has the advantage though, if it does turn into another tough and grueling war. Going by Cotto's words he's likely to quit if he's taking alot of punishment.

Don't get me wrong, the guy always was a warrior. He wouldn't have fought the fighters he did, fought on through all the tough spots he was in if he wasn't. Boxing isn't everything to him now, that's all.

Similar thing happened to Kostya Tszyu. He used to always say he'd die in the ring rather than quit, was even drawn to tears defending that stance on a 60 minutes interview after the reporter brought up his family and asked why'd he'd be willing to die and leave them. To him pride was everything. Yet with a $5 million payday and a great career behind him he let his trainer stop the fight against Hatton. Priorities change, even for the proudest of warriors. Even Morales quit against Pacquiao.
