Ive watched this a few times now and come to the conclusion Foreman was not overly hurt by the punch , the fact Foreman's leg looked to of give way again as the shot landed really was the main factor in him going down imo , at a first glance it looked as though Cotto had landed a perfect body shot and stopped a badly injured Foreman , but looking at the replay you could see the leg went again and Foreman still had his breath and barring the injury would not of been stopped .

    Thoughts ??????

Definitely. It wasn't a crisp landed punch, Foreman got hit on the side of which his bad knee was and went down as a result.

Mercante gave him a chance up until that point.

Agreed. Punch was a solid shot but was used as an excuse to end the fight.

Foreman with a good knee would have absorbed that shot and kept fighting.

Watch foreman's right elbow after the shot and then come back and say it didn't affect him.

It is still a siginificant body shot. Foreman braced for it which includes planting his feet but having an injured knee it gave.

Even without the injury it's pretty safe to say Cotto is going to win it anyway. With a probability of a stoppage.

That wasnt my point , my point was the shot was not an earth shattering fight stopping body shot , solid shot yes , effective yes , but without the injury Foreman see's that through IMO .

    100%.

It was headed that way before the knee injury. Seemed like it was only a matter of time until Miguel caught him.

I agree, I think Mercante was just looking for something to stop it ( a knockdown, unanswered punches...anything except a towel being thrown in when nothing is happening). The body shot looked perfect and I'm sure it hurt like hell, but I've seen plenty of Cotto's victims respond far worse than that and attribute that he went down because he didn't really have two legs to stand on to begin with.

Given Cotto's known fading down the stretch i think a stoppage was a long shot , however that said once Foreman was clearly injured i liked the way Cotto dived on him , he really looked to force the stoppage at that point .

Overall id of had Cotto a handy UD winner with maybe a KD as Foreman would of looked to poor it on late as he would of had to of known that he was behind , that would of opened a few more doors for Cotto to drag Foreman into a dog fight , but i dont think a stoppage was imminent until Foreman fell , and it still took Cotto 2 more rounds to force a stoppage anyway .

Considering he got hit, took a few steps on the hurt leg, and then proceeded to go down baring his weight on his other leg there is really no justification to these claims. He was hit, hopped, and then went down on his own accord. There was a thread the other day that had a slow motion GIF that clearly showed his injury (which is only a torn meniscus, a very common injury, and one that most professional athletes play through after sustaining...read here if you don't believe me

) had no effect on him going down after the body shot.

That is IMO a very very short sighted opinion of what actually happened , did you not see Foreman hopping around for 2 rounds and having to go through the pain of falling yet again after the initial fall this time impacting right on the knee cap !!!!!

Look man the shot was a solid body shot , if Foreman was not injured would he of went down ??? IMO No , arguable yes for sure , if Foreman was not injured would the fight of been stopped there and then for that body shot ??? HELL NO !!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to watch what happened after the stoppage to truly paint yourself a picture ............
