If you want to say Foreman would not have been caught by that punch as he was able to avoid being caught earlier when is leg was healthy, then yes I agree, but had he been hit with a healthy knee by the same punch he still goes down. Now, Merchante would most likely not have stopped it there and Foreman presumably could have gotten up, but the punch would have had the same effect with or with out the injury.

This is my point , Foreman seemed relatively un hurt by the punch once he was actually on the ground , he seemed more deflated by the fact his knee was not playing the game than he was gasping for air !!!

Im not gonna sit and argue with you and say the punch was not a valid KD punch like ive said before that is arguable , we have both expressed our views on what we think on that !!!

Fact is i beleive Foreman would not have been stopped by that punch had he not been injured , i dont think the punch hurt him bady enough for him not to beat the 10 count ...........

This is different than what you said in your first post

"the fact Foreman's leg looked to of give way again as the shot landed really was the main factor in him going down imo"

If you watch the video you can see foremans left ()uninjured leg was the one that gave out, because of the body shot. It was a very good punch that forced the knockdown not the right knee

It was a good shot but I think that the ref was just looking for an excuse to stop the fight after all the madness beforehand.

If you watch the video, Foreman was sliding to his left. His good knee side. He started to crumble when he was putting his weight on his left foot. Meaning his legs gave out from the shot.

You can clearly see him put weight on his bad knee (right knee) after the punch but did not crumble AFTER this step (left knee). Which is typical of a body shot KO - late reaction compared to head shots.

Not saying the body punch is some kind of awesome punch, but Foreman took a knee from the punch and not because of his bad knee.

I don't think Cotto is the same fighter he was before the Margarito fight.

Watching that gif shows you just how good a body shot it was. Foreman's whole body reverberates from it, his right elbow naturally drops to cover himself. That shot hurt him.

Whether or not the fight should have or would have been stopped there if Foreman wasn't injured is irrelevant. He was hurt by that punch and with nearly a minute left in the round Cotto would have poured it on and got the stoppage either way.
