Cotto touched fists with a few of his team, walked backstage calmly. I assume he just wanted to sit down, get some water, have someone check him over and chill....he wasn't going to stay around for the decision to be announced when he'd just been nigh-on annihilated in a gruelling battle by his closest rival.....the build-up was intense enough, and the buzz around the fight huge!

I'm thinking Cotto was drained, and just wanted to get out of there. Normal human emotions.

Cotto's was MORE savage because he had dominated the early rounds. Margo was like a train, miles off down on the track, you can just see the light. If you go left or fight, you fall off, so you've gotta outrun the train.

But unless you get to the end of the track first, the train catches up with you. Strange analogy but that's what Margarito was like in this fight.

Pavlik lost every round, it made him look foolish. he's still a warrior, but now knows he's NOT unbeatable.

Cotto was outfought. That's hard to stomach. Pavlik was outclassed. He can make adjustments.

Cotto! For the simple fact that he was in the fight in the begining and was landing his very best against Marg...ultimately hitting Marg with everything but the kitchen sink yet he still got TKO'd and beat into submission.

PAV was challenging an ATG...a living legend and moving UP in weight. Yeah Hop is old but still he preforms very well considering his age and PAV still has his belts at 160. There are many reasons for PAV to consider why he lost.....Cotto doesn't have many reason to choose from to why he lost....that's gotta take a toll on a man mentally.

Cotto took a far worse beating than Pavlik.Pavlik didn't lose as much as Cotto pyhsically(infact he lost very little i'd say) but he might have lost more mentally because he lost in completely one-side fashion.Cotto can still say to himself 'I made Margo look ridiculous for five rounds,I made mistakes afterwards that I hope I will not Make again'.Pavlik will have to suffer the disbelieving thoughts such as 'I could do nothing against a 43-year old man'.Cotto will beat Margarito in the rematch mark my words.

    I think Cotto has a chance to beat Marg...however I don't think it's likely.

    Reportedly Crying????? From what source!!!!!
Are you just kind of throwing in something extra ( embellishing )
because it kind of sounds good with your story?

Pavlik was out of the fight from the 1st round.
    It wasn't close at all.

IMO both losses are bad, both are equally damaging but who knows they may bounce back stronger than ever

  10. Bob Arum is the lost one now. He put his top fighters in with the wrong opponents. Now Pacquiao is going to get whooping from DLH

Well Cotto is a great fighter and Pavlik is a subpar fighter. Bhop is 43 and schooled Pavlik is easy fashion. Cotto fought very well against the beast Margarito. Cotto will bounce back because that is what great fgihters do. Pavlik is one dimensional and not athletic at all.

Actually Cotto seem a bit detached as well after the fight. He tried to put on a smile but it was very transparent. You could see in his eyes and his body language that he was very distrought about what just went down and he was trying to make sense of it all. I saw very similar things from both PAV and Cotto after their 1st losses.

The plus for PAV is he finished the fight. He got stunned but was able to make it to the final bell which is a "WIN" (if you want to call it that) in itself. Not to mention this wasn't his weight class....he was moving up...he was also facing a living Legend in Bhop...although past his prime and very old in boxing standards Nard by all accounts is still dangerous even in this form.

The reason a rematch for PAV is not in the works are for two major reaons...1..the clear cut and dominating fashion in which PAV lost...and 2....It's NOT his weight class. PAV is the 160 pound champion, not the 170 pound champion.

Cotto on the other hand isn't moving away from or to his natural weight class. He already there at WW. So it's either give up! Which isn't in his DNA or face your fears, brush yourself off and go at it again. But Cotto has to deal with the fact that he lost to his equal...someone who MOST felt he would "expose" in Marg and what ended up happening was now the media that embraced him so warmly (media) are now saying he's exposed....that isn't fair but it's the nature of the beast.

Cotto could rematch Marg sooner than June or july...I'm sure cotto will test the waters, fight a tune up and gain some confidence before jumping right back in there with Marg. Which is the right thing to do. Unfortunately no one knows how the mental and physical beating that both PAV and Cotto took will affect them in their future fights...IMO Cotto has much more to come back from given that the man he lost to took his titles and is still in the division where he resides.

great post... I just felt Kelly underestimated Hopkins greatly, Hopkins fights usually are tough to score and pretty close esp. at his age... Kelly really thought he was going to be the first to knock Hopkins out... he didnt do anything positive or anything else in the fight, in which he could carry back even when he moves down to 160... he was completely dominated... at 160 Kelly has probably one or two opponents left and then what??? eventually he has to move up and the hopkins fight could play a negative role in the future...

cotto right now could face other opponents, there is a long list for him... if he wanted to he could wait another 1 or 2 years, but he wants the rematch as soon as possible... this is pretty risky in my opinion for his career if he loses again... but it seems he has confidence enough and knows something that we dont know to want a rematch by june or july...

Cotto lost due to fighting the wrong style of fight but can certainly put things right in a rematch (not to mention he couldnt breath for the second half of the bout) but Pav could fight B Hop 100 times and be lucky to get the win.

I struggled to give Kelly a single round, that bust be hard for him to take considering he was being touted as the USA's next big thing.

I definitely think that Pavlik's was worse. Cotto was outboxing Margo for 6 rounds, and with a bit of work, could do it for longer and win. I'd go as far as to say I'd fancy Cotto in a rematch.

Pavlik, however, was outclassed completely. Dominated, humiliated and beaten. He must know he can't beat the best, and that must be draining.
