Cotto should not be called a 4-division champion. He won the WBC and lineal titles against a crippled champion and refused to defend them against the mandatory OR AGAINST ANY MW.

Well he beat the reigning champ and defended against a former unified champ and is now facing a former LMW champ. His resume ain't too bad at all. Catchweights suck but they happen and if they make fights easier to make I'm all for them.

Should we not count Pacquiao's titles at catchweights either?

Won his title vs the Lineal and real MW Champ, defended it in a tune-up vs a top 5 MW and former unified MW Champ, is now taking on a former unified JMW Champ.

Should he beat Canelo he'd have the best resume at MW, and in 2 fight's has already beaten the same # of MW Champs and top 5 MWs as everybody in the top 10. Cotto is the most legit Champ at MW.

I agree, with the exception that he beat the reigning CHAMP.

Your'e a GREAT poster LUF, but we all know that Sergio was NOT the "champ", but rather an aging titlist who managed to hold on to his titles making so-so defenses, very similar to the quality of the CHAMPS defenses, with one glaring exception......Golovkin, the CHAMP was set to defend against Pirog, a far stronger defense than anyone on Sergio's resume.....Sturm, also a far better defense and of course, Golovkin wanted the unification fight with Martinez long before he was shot.

    That said.....

Cotto "deserves" props for winning titles in 4 different divisions.

But he was NEVER the CHAMPION in any one of those divisions.

At LWW, his best win was Paulie.
At WW his best win was Judah.
At LMW, his best and only solid win was Margarito.
At MW......I give him more props for beating Geale in the manner he did, even considering the draining Geale did to make 157.

Fact is....Cotto won 4 rds from Mayweather and 3 from Pacqioua.

He gets most all his prestige from those 2 Ls, than he does for his best wins.

And tbph.......Austin Trout......f/d him up badly.

What would Golovkin do to the Trout that f/d up Cotto?????:think:think:think

Has Cotto ever been the best fighter in any division? It's debatable. Imo he was the best LMW from beating Foreman until losing to Floyd. I would say he was the best from beating Martinez until Golovkin beat Murray. So I think he's spent a very small portion of his career as the best around.

The only loss he should be embarrassed about is Trout, he looked shot that night.

It isn't debatable that Sergio was the champ though, he beat Pavlik who beat Taylor who beat Hopkins. And Sergio was still the champ when Cotto beat him.

Right now this moment only a fool would favour him over Golovkin. If Cotto stops Canelo though, the fight suddenly gets a lot closer and the resume gets a lot more comparable.

Cotto has spent almost all his career as a paper titlist, up until Martinez when he became a paper champion.

Ha-ha-ha. Best resume at MW without fighting ONCE at 160 and without ever fighting a healthy MW :lol::lol:

... and how convenient to call healthy Geale a bum when talking about Golovkin beating him and calling a severely dehydrated and demoralized Geale a top 5 MW when talking about Cotto :nono

He was a journeymen when both fought him but, seeing as the most accomplished guy on GGGs resume is Geale Cotto gets credit especially since he was used as a tune up.

Also you guy are so quick to say anything above 154 is MW when Alvarez is fighting non title JMW fight's so yes Cotto beating Martinez @ 159, Geale @157, & potentially Canelo @155 would give him the best resume at MW.

The difference between the two is you have to make excuses to try and downgrade Cotto's MW record, meanwhile you have to make excuses to try and upgrade GGGs resume.
