I'm still feeling gutted for Cotto's loss but thats life and he must get on with things and I'm sure he will. But there are a few thoughts I have after last nights fight. Not saying I'm correct just how I feel about it Cotto's path to redemption lays in him sorting out fundamentals for his career, that I believe is: 1-His corner. He needs to have a corner who can help advise to steer him out of trouble and can give sound advice. A team who can help him develop his very obvious skill set and heart into a fighter who can use all his assests to the maximum to win again. The fight with Pacman showed Cotto does have the skills to stay in there with the elite fighters but he lacked discipline and no real strategy. It is said a corner can only do so much, but what it can do is see the fight from the outside and understand what the opponent is doing and to try and counter that. It will allow the fighter to have confidence which the lack of I personally think was the biggest blow for cotto last night. You see since Pacman's last three fights everyone was thinking he would knock out cotto quick. And this must have been on Cotto's mind. The first knock down must have really made cotto think but I think it was a combination of a punch and slip but a legitimate knockdown nonetheless. He wasn't hurt and came back ok. The second one was coming because he played right into manny's hands and that is when his confidence went. If he had a corner who could revive that confidence and help him recompose then it could have been different IMO. That is one of the factors which set manny apart from cotto because not only has roach been able to really develop manny but he has faith in his abilities and that makes him confident (with all his predictions) but also makes manny confident and motivates him. That is why we saw manny urging cotto to trade because even with cotto's power I don't think he was punching as hard as he could of, the reason being when his confidence was shattered so was his ability to really bang, but manny was taking shots because his confidence was high (one of the reasons). 2-He must get rid of the ghosts of Margo and now Manny After his loss to Margo he went through some **** with his uncle, Arum and plasterman case etc. This is not the best way to re-invigorate your career. I think once he can arrange for a new more experianced professional team he should take a rest, get back in the ring and start building his confidence with good b level fighters (Collazo?) and then fight margo again, If he wins he can go onto to try and get another belt and i think he can beat people like berto no doubt. He cant be fighting people like jenning - with all due respect. Also the win against Clottey was good but it wasnt convincing and that does not do anything for your confidence like a really dominant and convincing win would do. Maybe if he rebuilds he may rematch manny again? But we don't know. Now with Manny what an awesome fighter the best P4P right now and even if he lost to PBF he would still be the best of this generation. The only 3 people I think right now who would fight pacman and trouble him would be, JMM, PBF and Mosley. JMM because he believes as do many others that he beat manny previously and was robbed, and so he isn't phased by a confidence issue against manny, rather he believes in his abilities to be able to beat pacman PBF because his style is one which could give manny problems with a masterful defence and also he has the confidence in himself, yes I know people have dissed him but how different is his rise from 130-154? He is not the best people but he is a world class elite champion Sugar Shane I believe has the power, chin and still bit fast and has skills to trouble manny but he also has confidence in himself especially after his battering of Margo. He is probably the wealest link out of the three, but I wouldn't count him out. Cotto lost because not only was manny's skill-set better but he lost his confidence and that set the ball rolling for defeat. Would the cotto who beat mosley have beaten pacman? I don't know Maybe? maybe not but he would have given him more of a battle than last night. But last night we saw a true great boxer in manny and a true great warrior in cotto and even though it was a shame he lost and I was rooting for Cotto too.
