This is a fairly late post but I have to say Cotto looked great. Fantastic game plan, High guard, cut off the ring, rip body shots, then up to the head. Out muscle mayweather in the clinch. Jabs that snapped mayweathers head back, get him in the corner and keep him there. He wasn't going to win on points, he needed a KO to beat mayweather and he went in there and beat him up and took some of mayweathers best shots in the progress. I was also impressed with mayweather showing a good chin and heart during a rough fight. I've never seen floyd hit flush some many times and never had a bloody nose that was gushing. Mayweather was affected by those Mayweather looked vunerable and cotto exposed that he is infact hittable. Dont give me that **** that mayweather wanted to put on and entertaining fight for the fans and 'chose to brawl with cotto' or carried him that bull **** it was a great fight and entertaining and at the end of the day mayweather kept his 0 but I think cotto but on the better performance and fought his heart out and did more damage. Thoughts?
totally agree. cotto did exactly as i expected...minus the victory of course. but he landed some of the best shots i've seen landed on mayweather. set it up beautifully off the body work. i wonder where are all the ppl who predicted cotto would not be able to deal with floyds speed....and that he would be stopped...and all the other b.s.???
Oh they are all still running rampant in here, saying Floyd toyed with Cotto and it was easy work. atsch
After Saturday's performance, who do you see Cotto not beating at 154? Floyd's incredible defense is what won him this fight. No other fighter can replicate that.
Round 6 was the round that really amazed me. For most of round 6, the first two minutes of it anyway, Cotto was actually outboxing Floyd, which is something I haven't seen done for a long time (not since the Judah fight in the first few rounds).
Fight went as I thought it would but at least Mayweather "earned" this one. I thought it was going to end in a KO in the last round when Mayweather really opened up on (a very tired) Cotto but for one reason or another the fight ended with a decision. We'll see if this jail time will take anything out of Mayweather. He's been around people who've done time and heard all about it but he's never actually been there. I think he's kind of fragile, mentally, and he'll be on his own in the lock-up. We'll see. JET
i agree. the grumpy old men had it all wrong. hbo really does need to fire lamps and merch and get ppl in there that understand boxing better. steward does understand boxing...but he cowers to them (lamps/merch) more than anything.
the reason was cotto wasn't hurt...and he went right back after floyd when he landed that clean shot. floyd gave cotto his props...still trying to understand why the fans won't?
I think compubox has too large of an influence on scoring the fight. There were so many punches that were blocked by Cotto, but counted as landed for Mayweather. We aren't in the ring taking the punches, so maybe that is why Cotto felt so disgusted. He knew first hand that he blocked a lot of punches and figured he'd won rounds.
That was a vicious combination that Mayweather landed, not one punch. I recorded the fight and Cotto was hurt, believe me. Had it gone one more round I think a KO was coming. Not taking anything away from Cotto, he fought a very good fight. JET
I gave him a 10 for the performance. One thing I didnt like about him that night that every time he had PBF trapped in the corner and exchange punches with him, somehow he would always end up looking down to the floor, dont know why.......
