You make it sound like Cotto only has PR fans. Being Mexican doesn't give you a bigger base w/ Mexicans anymore then does being American make you automatically big, since there are MORE AMERICANS who watch anyway. Anyway, DK built Tito up by using him on a lot of his undercards. HIs fights made people fans. Same thing is happening w/ Cotto today. And Cotto is bigger @ 27 then Floyd was @ 27, and Cotto's already headlining shows, while Floyd didn't really till Gatti. Cotto isn't a big a name, but he's doing it with his fights, not actling like a villian.
I've cleary stated that the majority of Cotto's fan base are made up of PR's, I never once said that they were all PR. On to your next point, Boxing is a much bigger sport among Mexicans than as the case with Americans. A bigger percentage of Mexicans follow boxing, and more of them really care about the sport and their fighters. This is not the case with boxing in America. Boxing may not even be a top 10 sport in terms of popularity in the U.S. As a result, Mexican boxers, on average, will have a bigger and more loyal fan base than American boxers. Now on to Tito, yes his fights made him popular, but more specifically, it was fights with popular American fighters that helped his popularity. Even still, you won't really see Tito fight anywhere but PR and the Garden. Lastly, let's get to Floyd. Yes Cotto, is headlining ppv's at an earlier age than Floyd. However, there's a good reason for that. He's there only potentially marketable home grown talent. They have Pac, but they just got hm, and he already was marketble when he got here. When Floyd was with Top Rank, Arum shifted most of his focus on Oscar. It wasn't until Oscar left that Floyd was able to break out. If Floyd was still with Top Rank, Cotto wouldn't be getting the push from Top Rank that he's getting presently.
Definitely. He could do with a little bit of charisma, but he's such a nice guy I can't ever see him goading Floyd into a battle. Also, with English not being his first language maybe it would be a little more difficult for him, he'd just sound funny! BTW, nice avatar. Wooden Ladders? Talk to me!
You keep saying Tito and Cotto only fought in PR, New York and New Jersey...but besides Vegas, where the **** do you suppose they fight...in Kansas? Ohio? atsch MSG, Atlantic City and Vegas are the biggest venues when it comes to boxing...why would they fight anywhere else? PBF couldn't even sellout his own backyard...let alone MSG. There are more Blacks in NY than Ricans...do you think PBF would sellout purely on his name...I mean without riding the coattail of his opponents.
How about, Florida, Texas or California. These are all heavily populated states that could bring in alot of money in boxing match(there's probably some others as well that I'm neglecting). My point is, Arum at this point won't think of putting him in a venue outside of the Northeast because he's still basically a regional fighter at this point in his career. He would only do so at this point if he were fighting a guy who his a big draw in another area. As far a as Floyd goes, yes he can sellout an arena at this point based on his name. He fought a guy from the U.K in his last bout and the fight, which took place in a 16,000+ seat arena, sold out in less than an hour. And no, Hatton did not bring in all of the fans. His people were only alloted 4,500 tickets. Americans weren't buying tickets based on Hatton's name either considering none of his other 3 previous fights in America were even close to selling out.
The fight will happen. It will be in Las Vegas and Cotto will lose. And yall will make excuses to detract from PBF victory.
You sure as hell never heard me say that. If they wanna drain themselves to make 147 and get embarassed then I will pay to watch it.
