Did you need more evidence of Cotto's greatness?

Cotto is a good fighter, no doubt about it. But lets be honest, he beat future alphabet champs. Who cares??? Boxing Organizations throw belts on anyone these days. Interesting arguement but easily negated by the fact that all these boxing orgs do is create a champ by throwing a piece of paper around their waist. But with Q victory over PW last night it means to me that the WBO ww champ (Q)cant lace the boots of the WBA ww champ (Cotto). That has been proven.

still, Williams was #2 in the division behind Cotto, and now we was beaten by someone that Cotto handled easy.

    So credit to Cotto.

Never took credit from Cotto but this argument that if Boxer A (cotto) beats Boxer B (Q) and then Boxer B (Q) beats Boxer C (PW) then Boxer A (cotto) beats Boxer C (PW) is complete bull****. How can cotto be given credit for beating Q who beat PW? I understand the point of view that cotto owned Q and Q beat PW therefore PW wouldn't even last w/ cotto etc. but lets not totally disregard what PW did. He owned Marg and in many peoples eyes marg would own Cotto.. (not my opinion) But thats why they fight it out in the ring

No no no, you got it all wrong. It's not that people think Cotto can beat Williams now, it's that most people never gave Cotto much credit for beating the crap out of Q because they thought he was a bum. But with this win it shows he was a solid top welter and a solid win for Cotto.

    good explanation.

although saying people thought Q was a bum is a little bit of an exaggeration

Gotcha. I didn't think Q got totally disregarded after his loss to Cotto. But i do see your point. But we can be honest... Q is not the cream of the WW crop. Not even with his brand new can of alphabet soup belt.

off topic, it amazes me how people get a title and automatically want big fights even though they are still unproven.. ala Paulie Malinaggi. (hasn't beat anyone, hasnt koed anyone, has a title, wants big money)

    Maussa
    Ndou
    Torres
    Mallignaggi
    Quintana
all became champions after Cotto beat them.

the mosley fight showed cotto's level i think.

    he's clearly top notch.

but it was by no means a brilliant performance.

mayweather would beat him i think.

floyd is clearly top dog in world boxing at the moment.

cotto certainly deserves a top 10 p4p placing though.

and yes higher than hatton. :yep

i don't see how any of this changes the outcome of cotto vs PBF. cotto is turning into a great fighter, and deserves piles of respect, but he would lose to mayweather IMO.
