Four time champ in three divisions. Lost to a cheat/attempted murder/maricon and ATG. Sexy legs is past prime and waiting for a gift of a fight with a big name to lose and give him a pay day. Cotto just needs to defend his title against two or three bums and he's HOF.
Not sure what the point of the thread is, Martinez is a real good fighter himself, but yes Cotto has the better resume and the longer, more decorated career. He'd need to fight a really disciplined fight to beat Sergio, but it's not impossible considering how Barker made him look with straight punches, patient timing, and a responsible guard. Cotto's arguably already good to go for the HOF, though bums aren't going to help him any.
Cotto has never been the linear champion in his entire career. Sorry he is not an "ATG"(whatever that means). Sergio's resume is instantly better considering he owns legitimately the second most prized title in the sport of boxing.
Who was claiming Martinez had a better resume Williams, Bunema, Pavlik, Barker, Dizzy or Margarito, Clottey, Torres, NDou, Bailey, Corely, Mayorga, Mosley, Judah, Foreman, Gomez, Quintana, Malinaggi, Maussa Cotto has way more former title holders and ranked guys Sergio til Bunema was really kinda fighting bums

With the exception of Mosley, Williams and Pavlik were better than everyone else in Cottos resume. Mosley is Miguels greatest win when Forrest, Winky, and Oscar in the rematch beat better versions of Mosley and were more impressive. Williams beat Mosleys conqueror and destroyed Quintana in one round. I wouldnt say Sergio in terms of resume is that far off, but when it comes down to it head tto head is what matters. And if one fighter is great h2h he usually ends up having a great resume at the end of his career.
He has never been the champion. Period. I don't care how many belts you collect if they are all plucked but out of a trash can. You got to beat the guy to be the guy. Sorry but many of you are easy to impress. Martinez is what he is and nothing more. He is the lineal true and undisputed middleweight champion of the world. Cotto is a contender whose window is rapidly closing.
How can you claim Cotto is inferior H2H when they aren't naturally in the same weight class and haven't even fought yet? Cotto beat Foreman to get the linear title. Say what you want about the injury, Cotto made him fold under his educated pressure and won a majority of rounds up to that point clearly. Besides that, in the age of alphabet titles, linearity isn't what it used to be. The quality of opposition is what counts, and Cotto has by far more depth. He gave Quintana his first loss by stopping him quite early, gave Malignaggi his first loss, stopped Judah in his own weight class, beat a lesser Mosley than DLH and Forrest but a fresher one than Mayweather, and faced feared 140lb punchers Torres and Bailey. His wins against a heavier and eager Mayorga, an undefeated Yuri Foreman, and avenging one of his only two losses against Margarito with an impressive display of boxing is further icing on the cake. Add to that the fact that Cotto was able to perforate Pacquiao's eardrum despite having a myriad of technical flaws and basically no corner in the lead up and duration of their fight. Martinez had a great run against Williams and Pavlik, as well as Dzinziruk, earning his spot P4P and making lots of fans with myself included, but who else in the top 5 of his division has he ever beaten in his career? Clearly, Cotto is the more accomplished fighter, regardless of how they would match-up in a fight in the near future. Martinez's best wins don't compare to Miguel's, and he lacks the depth.
