**** off, I know enough about boxing that I don't need to trade insults with a dude who acts like a world class trainer but can't find common ground on simple points being discussed on a damn boxing forum. Don't embarrass yourself again by saying your predictions that Pacquiao has trouble with right-handed counter-punchers is an "impeccable" sign of your knowledge. Barker using his reach with little movement behind a high guard to provoke a lead from Martinez is not the same thing, but it produces a similar effect. Shorter men can make taller fighters give up their height by forcing them to lead irresponsibly. The whole point of doing that in the first place is that you are the shorter man. Of course Cotto's not going to do things the same way Barker would. Your emoticons don't do anything to challenge that commonly referred-to strategy. Clearly you have no grasp of my point and have to resort to childish insults. Why the **** do you keep calling me a *******? I know an overwhelming amount of your posts concern sucking Floyd's dick and making fun of Pac and his tards but I have news for you: boxing and its followers have elements that exist outside of the Floyd-Manny dichotomy. I like Cotto on his own as a fighter, I like Martinez on his own as a fighter, and I think Cotto can be competitive if he uses a strategy that you can't wrap you're thick hollow head around because you're misconstruing my arguments. Go make a thread worshipping Floyd or shitting on Pac, I don't even know why I take you seriously when so many others know better.
:verysad 1. Pavlik is not that fundamentally sound, his jab is good but not great and its mainly a range finder as he only uses it to set up the overhand right and more of an arm jab. 2. Miguel's spear like jab is more accurate and precise as he steps in with the left foot and shoulder making it a harder more committed jab. Its also used to set up combinations and inside work. 3. Pacquiao's speed helped him nullify Cotto's jab but only after he had Miguel hurt as its proof that during the earlier stages of the fight before Miguel was hurt and slowed down, it was giving pacquiao fits. 4. Every time Cotto fights the general consensus in ESB is that the opponents style is all wrong for him, as was the case for foreman, mayorga and margarito. All with significant height and reach advantages.Everyone else at 154 including your "prime" version of Pwilliams is fundamentally lacking in more areas than Miguel. 5. Martinez does not do well against pure boxers and depends on athletic ability way too much and its not a real adaptive fighter. He will look his age as soon as he fights a live pure boxer just like he was looking against barker. You wanna see someone bleed then take your ass to a boxing gym and make it happen, tho I doubt you have the heart to step in the ring much less lace em up. :hi:
Pretty sure that one at least never happened. I have no idea how you're defining "pure boxer" but Dzinziruk might have been Martinez's best performance. I also disagree with him not being a very adaptive fighter; he started landing the left in the late stages of Williams I after the right hook became less effective, he blitzed Pavlik in the ninth after he had lost the momentum, and he had clearly managed to take command of an up-to-that-point even Barker fight in the 2-3 rounds before the knockout.
Of course it happened, people here were confident on a Mayorga KO. Dzinziruk if im not mistaken played very well into Martinez's fight, engaging more than his usual and getting caught in the process. Barker troubled him not only with a simple high guard but with little movement. In Williams and Pavlik he prove he could adapt but also that he is vulnerable.
First result I found: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=295097 Second one I found: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=22248 Yes, a handful of persons (less than 10) picked against him. Creating a narrative of "nobody believes in Cotto" doesn't really work for fights in which he was a 10-1 favorite.
People here always go against him even if he is the betting favorite.Im not "creating a narrative" I've been here long enough to know he is seriously underrated. You make it sound like Im on a ESB influencing mission.:verysad
That's fine and all but I sure as hell don't remember any widespread predictions of Mayorga knocking him out. It was pretty much recognized at best as a stay-busy (or get-active-again) fight against someone well past it.
I really dont know why you keep on trying to dig at that statement but Ok. Yes Mayorga was a tune-up fight for margarito, he was "past it" but showed up in great shape thats all + Steward wanted him strictly boxing off the jab, no doubt he could have taken him out earlier.
Damn I'm actually going to agree with some of the *****s and *******s here, but how anyone can say Sergio lacks depth when he was a clear underdog vs Williams and Pavlik doesnt make sense. Williams to me was held as high of regard as Mosley or higher when Sergio beat him. Quintana exposed Paul, but Paul destroyed him in one round people seem to forget that as if it never happened. No one wanted a piece of Williams. And despite.Pavlik not being at his.best he was.still the bigger man, the champ, and favored to win. Im a big Cotto fan routed for him BOTH times vs Margarito, but I dont let feelings or emotions blur my judgement what they do in the ring. Cotto undoubtedly has more belts and championships, but people will only remember who you beat and how you beat them. To me a hard earned decision over a past his prime Mosley is not a better win than knocking the ****out a prime Williams or bludgeoning a big middleweight like Pavlik. People need to stop getting butthurt just because they dont agree with them. Cotto has a higher number of very good wins but am I supposed to give him more credit for beating Gomez, Judah, Quintana, etc than Sergio beating Dzin who beat Santos, Williams who kod Quintana in 1, Winky, and Margarito, and Pavlik the middleweight champ? The hate for Sergio is unbelievable its ridiculous.
Who the **** this argentinian ***** fought?..... bums. the guy started to get wet like a ***** when asked about fighting super 6 fighters. he aint got no balls.
