Cotto's stamin looked prety crap to me. He seemed to fade a lot faster in this fight than most fights I've seen him in... and I've seen nearly every one of Cotto's fights. The man was running around the ring towards the end of the fight because he knew he was gassed and in danger of getting stopped. He was very fortunate that Clottey isn't the type of high volume stalker that Margarito is otherwise Miguel would have been stopped again for sure. Seems to me like Cotto simply isn't the same fighter he was before the Margarito beating.
Those who say Cotto doesn't fade around the 7th round are blinded by the fact they are big fans of his. He faded agianst Mosley and pretended he was boxing by retreating, he was not boxing, he was out of gas. Same thing with Margarito and again with Clottey. Clottey made it look like Cotto still had some stamina in the 11th and 12th. Truth is, Clottey and Cotto were both gassed in those rounds. No question that if Clottey had pressed the action in the 11th and 12th, he would have clearly deserved the decision.
Great post. I truly believe he was only getting hit with the right so much because of his vision impairment due to his cut. One thing I noticed (and I'm pretty sure everyone did) was how he has no answer what-so-ever for the uppercut.
I think Cotto's stamina is an issue, just like it was with DLH's........ Cotto imo faded against both Mosley and Margarito.....he begins to retreat and go into a defensive shell, only flicking the jab, occasionally doing some punching, but imo stalling the exchanges with footwork..... I dont think its so much his legs that tire, but he seems to lose alot of steam on his punches..... .....it happened again against Clottey, but Clottey is in the same boat that Cotto is in.....even worse than Cotto as Clottey does'nt fight consistently from start to finish.....he takes too many rounds off.
