Actually think Roach made a good point about Cotto having no real leadership in his camp outside of himself. Think his camp is just staying status quo since he dropped his trainer a couple fights ago. I know Roach talks alot of trash, but I do think that Cotto has stagnated as far as his growth as a boxer and will just be coming in as the same Cotto in his previous fights. This is not a bad thing by any means, as that Cotto can certainly beat Pacman. But for such a big fight and vs an opponent who has a trainer that focuses on bad habits to capitalize on in fights, I think Cotto may run into trouble. I think team Cotto may be banking on the idea that the Cotto that beat Clottey will be able to beat Pacman. May happen, but I like fighters with corners that have a solid gameplan. I really dont think Cottos trainer/corner/team has a gameplan other then to fight as he always has. I think this could be a mistake in a fight against a fighter like Pacman and a trainer like Roach.
Good point and it's something i worry about. I want Cotto to win as he needs it more than Pac, however it's 50/50 for me. I have a feeling Pac's gonna be shocked at Cotto's power especially if he goes to the body which he has seemed to deduct from his arsenal as of late, but pac's speed is gonna cause Cotto all sorts of problems.
Cotto is going to surprise pac with his speed, timing, power, body shots, punishing jab (he's a converted southpaw) that jab is very hard !
That's how he is. As long as he feels relaxed being surrounded by those, which he is, things are going HIS way. He didn't feel relaxed with his uncle so he sacked him, he would do the same if he's surrounded by people that are wrong for him.
But is he really going to "surprise" pac? Thats the thing. Cotto does the same thing and does it well. Hell, for all purposes Cotto is undefeated.Pacs camp knows exactly what hes going to do though and Cottos camp may not be ready for what Pacman can and will do. Doing the same thing over and over and having some bad habits can be a potential problem if your fighting an opponent that has the ability to dissect those bad habits and use them to their advantage. But again, those bad habits havent caused Cotto to lose. And again, Cotto has never fought a fighter like Pac, although Cotto has a damn good resume. Fight is up in the air for me.
Made a similar - albeit not too direct - thread about this and was lambasted by a number of senior (got nothing better to do) forum members. I totally agree.
Cotto has faced speedy southpaws before who gave him trouble but we havent seen Pac fight a talented bigger man since Morales. People are forgetting that Cotto can fight well, or at least better than Pacman going backwards. Unless Pac ends it in 6, Cotto will outsmart, outbox and impose his size on Pac as the rounds go by.
Cotto is a tough guy, with a good chance of making some noise in that fight.. but i think Pac“s workrate and accuracy is too overwhelming for Cotto... I think cotto chance is to try to focus on the body and try to pick the pace OUT off the fight.. But i think pac is to strong right know... i will choose the winner on fight night...:good
No, but thats because Hatton really didnt follow a plan and was "brawling Ricky", and Mayweather didnt do a good enough job to incorporate new training with his old style and get the game plan ingrained in the brain. And there was that one X factor of Pacman. Its true, you cant teach an old dog new tricks, but you can certainly improve and correct upon things. You cant go changing Cotto at this point, why? The guy is a winner. But, you do have to tweak and change things here and there and I just dont think Cotto camp/trainer is doing that and it may have a considerable impact vs this particular opponent.
I think you made my point for me. Cotto is an established professional with a style that he's not going to change. I'm more worried about his nutritionist and his conditioning team at this point than I am over who trains him. And I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Manny has a few yes men around him also, unless those guys who sit around listening to him play the guitar are all training him also.
Ya, you made a good point. Yes men around all boxers, agree. My point is with his training, in particular, his trainer. Theres a reason he was the assistant up until recently. Doesnt mean he cant be/turn into a great trainer for Cotto. Just comes off to me as a guy who is just maintaining Cotto, but adding nothing. Again, I may be completely wrong and maintaining Cotto may be all that is needed since he has consistently won. Dont fix it unless its broken, but theres always room to upgrade/correct things so they dont go broke.
Look what the **** is going on in Mannys camp with his yes men around him, since this series started the tension between these guys has gotten to the point in which Roach is now talking **** about these guys....... and someone is talking about the people surrounding Cotto? the people that are with Cotto are actually doing their job
