Could a 1967 Muhammad Ali really beat a 1997 Lennox Lewis?

Ali would be giving up 3 inches in height, 35 pounds in weight and wasn't a power puncher. At least with say, Joe Louis, you could give him a chance to land a big right hand, but with Ali, I'm not so sure. I'm having trouble visualizing a scenario with Ali winning unless he just out worked Lewis and won on points.

If he hit Lewis enough he could knock him out like he did vs Foreman, I know the heat beat George but that right hand was good and would have took Lewis out.

I would take Lewis, but that Croatian guy he fought was about Ali's size and gave him a good tussle.

Of course he could have, and I believe he probably would have.

Lewis wouldn't be marching forward leaving himself wide open and swinging for the fences.

Yes, it's also not a shocker that Ali wins all the polls on here and it's for good reasons. How many other heavyweights could move like him? had the reflexes like him? had the hand speed like him? Sure, many have had heart and chin, but when you look at the whole package it's hard to back against him.

I know but Foreman showed great glove control in that fight it`s just that Ali did also which would enable him to control Lewis`s lead hand often enough to get a lot of rights in, plus his hand speed was quicker in '67 than it was when he fought Foreman.

5:28 Ali would be controling Lewis`s lead as he did vs Foreman, notice how near to Mav Lewis`s lead is, that`s so the jab doesn`t have far to travel, he did a vid of him showing Wilder how to do this.

No. Ring magazine came out with a good article earlier this year ranking Ali and Louis as #'s 1 and 2, from a whole host of boxing professionals. But it was for legacy, not h2h. They noted it's silly to compare boxers of different eras in that way, too much has changed, the talent pool has gotten larger, and thus the fighters have gotten larger. It would be harder on Ali even than others, since he was reliant on a combination of size and movement, and not power. Movement without size never really translates to dominance at HW. Anyway, it always saddens me that so many fans just ignore something that the professionals Ring interviewed can even acknowledge.

That's a weak appeal to authority, especially since you didn't bother naming any of the contributors.

Look it up, it's a famous issue.

And the logic speaks for itself, sorry fanboys like you can't get past it.
