Well the chances of Cotto beating Mayweather are small, lets be realistic at this point BUT if he were to pull an upset against Money will that propel Cotto as the best fighter from P.R. in the last 20 years? I mean rank him higher than the great Tito Trinidad? I dunno, I dont think so, Tito in P.R. a god. What do you think?

I know if this happens, for my P.R. friends this would be the greatest thing to ever happen and make up for Tito not fighting Roy jones and then being beat by a shot Roy Jones.

Mayweather is damn near unbeatable. So a win over someone like that, would mean a hell of a lot. Enough to surpass Tito? Maybe not. A one-off win alone, even against Mayweather, may not be enough to trounce most of Tito has done.

I would think that it absolutely would. No question, for me. It would be enormous. If he legitimately won, and it wasn't a crazily controversial win, then yes. There's precious little chance that actually happens, of course, but there you go.

A win over Floyd then manage to beat another solid fighter like Canelo would put him ahead.

a victory over floyd would beat a controversial win over De la Hoya
a victory over Canelo would equal a victory over Vargas.
but add wins over Mosley, a capable Judah and Margarito would put him ahead.

I am a mayweather fan but why is so many people counting out Cotto. This fight is at his weight. He has a very good trainer, and cotto is a strong fighter. No means is this a cake walk. the last time mayweather fought at this weight he didn't look great. I like this fight better than pac b/c pac is too small for mayweather.

It is like another poster stated, if Cotto takes PBF's 0, he is a automatic superstar. Well, anyone who beats PBF. It would make much more noise then say Pac losing in June. Since, Pac has lost before.

Well i think that is a given (super stardom) but the question is: Could/Should he be ranked ahead of Tito as one of P.R. boxing greats?

    P.R. greats:

    1. Wlfredo Gomes
    2. Wilfred Benitez
    3. Tito Trinidad ??
    4. Miguel Cotto??

I think "Salsero" Escalera, Chapo Rosario, and the other Tito (ortiz?) should not be on the top 5, imhp

This is definetely a matter of opinion, for me YES. Cotto would be the better fighter as history remembers it.

No ****. A win over Floyd would put you to HOF/ATG status instantly.

A win over Floyd is 10x the accomplishment as a win over Pacquiao, Pacquiao 3 losses.
