Could a hard punching lightweight hit as hard as a featherfisted heavyweight?

I once was doing really well against guys my size 135 pounds one night when I was a young guy, so I decided to go with a guy who weighed about 190. He wasn't that quick and I landed a big over hand right, and I thought Bingo! come back with the left hook. When they woke me up I was told he threw a short left hook right after my right landed. The answer to your question is no.

He could have punched up at his balls.

Ali punched harder than Fury does now, I don`t know if Fury could have stopped Foster.

Only around the turn of the century.

Look at a guy like Michael Spinks. The guy was an ENORMOUS puncher at 175. I don't think a lot of people realize just how hard he hit at 175. He moves up and hits an aged Holmes any amount of times cleanly but may as well have been hitting a punching bag. I dare say Holmes did not see quite a few of these punches and they are often the most dangerous. Holmes was stunned or dropped by natural heavyweights including some that weren't one punch hitters. Spinks however didn't seem to worry him at all unless i am forgetting something.

This wasn't even light heavyweight Spinks, he had added notable poundage "scientifically". Don't be fooled by the stoppage of a chinny washed up Cooney where he hit him time and time and time again in short succession with clean blows and stopped him on his feet.

Restricting Spinks to 175 would be a step backward again. Julian Jackson at 154 or 160 would be a step back as well. Keeping Hearns at 147 a step back as well.

Go all the way back to the likes of Rosario, Duran, Williams, Ganigan, Corrales, Arguello, Valero etc and those heavyweights would have to be incredibly feather fisted let me tell you.

You haven't defined class. Are you talking pro's? Decent pro's? Top 10 contenders?

This is what matters. Talking contenders and genuine heavyweights i'd say not a chance.

Also the weight difference between the two fighters. The heavyweight would have so much of the weight on him, being added to his punches.

Yeah I do not believe that.

Sure a HW who just throws arm punches ight not hit as hard as a top 10 strking LW.
Less likely if they both applied themselves at the max though.
You can find a youtube video where this woman registers mopre than a dude...But he is jabbing, she is winding up & hitting with her Full Weight.
Prince Naseem fought at 128. Even if his in ring, rehydrated weight was 140 or so...
I cannot see how anyone that size can hit just about as hard as a very hard hitting SHW like Lennox Lewis.

It is more likely that the latter's tp efforts were not recorded, &/or the technology was flawed.

More realistic is a Sports Illustrated article I read decades ago.
On a US Olympic team a bover from a quite light clas hit harder than the weight classes above him-before hey got to 156. Now assuming all were trying as hard as the little guy, this is consistent with other evidence (or my guesstimates), that a trruly great hitter can strike as hard as the big punchers at a lean weight of 40 lbs. more.
    HWs have diminishing returns...

So think about that; it means maybe Prince Naseem could hit as hard as most guys at SMW.
But no way does he hit as hard as a fellow freak even near that size, like Julian Jackson.

If we're talking Duran compared to some 0-30 nobody HW, then yes, the lightweight. But if it's a serious pro, no.

    Sure.

Spinks, Patterson, Rocky or Foster, maybe Kovalev definately could.

Top 10 lightweight contenders v heavyweight pros but not decent pros at all, with bad KO percentages.

I've got some ideas for threads you may like to start if you run out of ideas.....

Who would smell worse after a 15 rounder Tyson or Dempsey?

Who had the ugliest wife out of Holmes & Berbick?

Who had the best chin between Robin Givens & Mae West?

Should they re-introduce 25 rounders but with toilet breaks?

Is Tommy Fury the next Duran?

Just how big were Leonards feet?

Was SRR really that great or just lucky?

Who's toilet took the most punishment between Foremen & Liston in their respective primes.
