Could a peak Aaron Pryor have done better v Spence than Garcia did?

logic is out the window on this thread...we know Mark Ant is a spaz but this thread once again shows the lunacy that has become the legend of Aaron Pryor

Pryor was a chubby 140....140 at the time was the weight division where 135 and 147lb fighter who were not good enough ion their weight classes went to make the top ten.......Pryor who had been dropped several times in his career by 2nd rate fighters and 1 ATG who was a tired old man at the end of his career.....he fought wide open, reckless abandon with average speed and poor fundamentals and average footwork but a frenzy only explained when he was caught with the black bottle in a big fight with cameras in the corners watching like hawks.....

Arguello is an ATG who was coming up to his 4th weight class and the end of his competitive prime.....126-130-135 now 140 and older with lots of fights under his belt while Pryor had almost no hard fights in his career so the wear and tear factor was on his side he had fought no tough prime fighters where Arguello had been fighting them for years

Spence gets no credit for beating a great fantastic iron chinned fighter in 3 division undefeated world champion Garcia in a dominant shut out even Robert Garcia spoke of how good Spence was and as good of a fighter as Garcia was he had nothing for Spence....Errol gets no credit?? But Pryor fights life and death with Arguello and only wins because of the Panama Lewis drug intervention in between rounds and he is now an ATG and can beat bigger better fighters than he ever saw in his life??

Its threads like this that makes me question the knowledge and powers of observation and research that makes a guy wonder......what magic spell does Pryor have everyone under....charisma? where is the rational side by side analysis?

If you actually read my post one would have thought you'd seen this part in it: "Yes, Duran fought a fantastic fight and that had much to do with it,"

Arguello would have fought far better v Spence, he was far less basic than Garcia is.

All this is true, but it doesn't change the fact that Leonard neglected a very large part of his toolset and tactics in the fight. Spence on the other hand was flawless in how he utilized his tools and executed the game plan.

Without a doubt Leonard is a much, much, much more proven fighter and probably better than Spence will prove himself to be, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he fought a better tactical and technical fight in Montreal than Spence did this weekend. I don't think he did.

I dont necessarily see whats wrong with this thread. However I do find it excruciatingly humorous that there are a few posters left that still cannot see that markant is a troll. Bravo, mark

Is Garcia basic now? Don't really know how to respond to this. Think I'll limit myself to say that I strongly disagree.

Arguello had a better reach than Grcia has, Errol`s jab wouldn`t have worked as well against the longer Alexis.

I really, really rate Mikey, but stillI thought before the fight that it was going to pan out more or less exactly they way it did. That was because Spence has every tool in the book to make life hell for a smaller fighter and he uses his tools very well.

Just to gain some perspective - during Pryor's day Spence would most probably be a MW. So either you think he wouldn't be among the top 5 guys of his size in that era or you think Pryor would beat most of the top guys of Spence's size during that era. Or you think Pryor would be all wrong for Spence style wise.

I'm personally with richdanahuff: Pryor came in pretty open and was there to be hit. That's not good at all if you're giving up something like 4 inches and 20 lbs to a sharpshooter like Spence.

Yea I wasn't disagreeing with you just a general reminder that 'Montreal' Duran wasn't some one night wonder that need circumstances to achieve greatness at the elite level. DeJesus 3 or Palomino were other examples of taking very good to great boxers and owning them to one extent or another.

Very strongly, That performance by Leonard would have beaten 98% of every welterweight who ever lived

This gets back to the legendary age old argument of whether Leonard was forced to fight Duran's fight and had no choice. I would say the majority believe Duran forced this, even tho i am not so sure personally.

Didn't Duran call SRL's wife a "poota".....just to get SRL to fight him in close?
