Who was the tired ATG that dropped him?

Jury still out on Spence. He though reminds me of Vernon Forrest. Looked a world beater then was upset twice before injuries ruined his career. At the moment the Hawk on pts.

Not out sized and over matched?

    There's a difference.

Spence is an excellent fighter and so is Mikey but it was a massive bridge too far for him.

He was simply never in range to get anything off and Errol basically strafed him. I give him kudos for gutting it out but the fight could also have been stopped with no disgrace to him either. He was simply way out of his depth.

It wasn't like a massive lightweight like Mosley jumping up two divisions to fight De La Hoya. Garcia is a Featherweight who bravely (or stupidly) got himself up to Welter to fight a guy who is huge at that weight and bloody talented to boot. The result was a foregone conclusion really.

Trying to remember the knock down but it's been a long time. Pryor's knockdowns were always balance knockdowns anyway and he was seldom if ever hurt.

Yeah it just seems a strange thing to hold against a guy. It is akin to critiquing Calzaghe for the Hopkins KD or even Tito for some of his early KD’s.

Tito didn`t react to his early knockdowns the way Pryor did, he looked a little rattled, Pryor just threw himself back into the fray.

The first round......the entire point is he has somehow been elevated into the echelon of the Fab 4 level and he never fought a good prime fighter at 140.....also he was dropped several times which had much more to do with carelessness not a ATG quality to be dropped that many times in his career....the Dujuan Johnson KD was a clear as day faceplant KD not a off balance.

So do you agree with this eras elevation of Pryor as a mythical fighter ducked by all the greats? or are you a little more realistic about him as a very good 140 champion and nothing else....whose career should have an asterisks for having to cheat to beat a fighter coming up in weight his 4th weight class BTW to take his title

Strongly agree with post again .. And he did nothing at WW to assume he would have been competitive there .. He had his chance and he passed on it turning down the SRL AND Duran fight offered to him .. You have to put in the work first before you start getting awarded the victories … for me

It was just a balance kd like most of Pryor's when prime. all these kd's on their own don't stop him from being rated at a certain level because it wasn't from a weak chin and he always came back to win. Truth be told the guy took one helluva punch no if's or but's.

Yes Johnson dropped him heavily yet he was up almost before his knee hit the floor and then bouncing around unaffected before racing after Johnson. Johnson was a hard hitter let it be said. Pryor's rapid recovery was impressive.

Yes Rich i have long said i consider Pryor overrated on the whole. The Cervantes win is impressive and Arguello an extremely good win no matter how it is spun.

The real story is that he was about to get the bigger bouts and find his level in history post Arguello but went off the rails. I also posted in here many years ago (and provided documentation) that Pryor and Leonard were slated to fight straight after SRL fought Stafford but he was then diagnosed with the detached retina and retired.

At any rate Pryor was a very good fighter. Personally i think he would have been found out against greats like Duran and Chavez at 140 let alone against Ray at 147 but we never got to see that.

That is not true I was a fan of Pryor he was a fun fighter to watch.....I am against hyperbole in these discussion boards where so much information is discussed from many sources but the board goes off the rails when it comes to skills, styles and ring IQ...that is where the hyperbole and mystique seems to override the careful eye of observation and evidence
