Could a prime "big" george foreman be effective today?

that's why i have always wondered why ali never gave foreman a rematch. ali's fans say, "why would he? he figured out george!" they never think george may have learned some thing as well from that fight. well cooper had him down and almost out. rematch. frazier and norton, two rematches. but george? NOPE!

Ron Lyle decked George so no guarantees on Joshua and he's giving away height, weight and reach which he never had to do in his era.

i think george cleans out the division. in 30 years, your kid will laugh at you when you suggest joshua would beat whatever bum hes high on at the time, only because you will finally understand how little knowledge he actually has about what makes great fighters and is just trying to make a hero out of his generations mediocre talent.

Would it have mattered. Ali,s level of skill was on another planet. He beat George all ends up that night. He,d have done the same in the rematch. If you ever want to learn how to beat a bully...study that fight. Ali stood up to him all night long. Was ,nt long before the bully started to come apart. People can say what they want about Ali...when it came down to it tho...he had courage to go with every bit of skill he ever had. For me best fighter that ever lived. He fluctuated at times. I still say at his very best tho....there 'was no one to match him...including Robinson and anyone else in modern times. Just a special fighter that deserves all the credit he ever got...guy changed the world. Every bit as good in the ring as he was out of it. And that's saying something.

Foreman the same...even years after his prime...out of shape...completely finished
...he wins a world title. For me it shows two things...boxing regressed. And George as well as Ali was an unbelievable fighter in times we,all probably never see again.

Yup. Psychologically he became ineffective after Ali.

lmao at people trying to make George Foreman taller 30 years after the event

The man was 6’3”, no need to stretch him out to make your point. Parker is only 6’3” too, obviously wasn’t 6’4” next to AJ

Question- who looked fatter, 250lb Foreman vs Moorer or 247lb Parker vs Ruiz?

I think if you are being honest with yourself, Foreman clearly looked more overweight, which indicates he is smaller than Parker

226lb Parker was 21 years old and hardly any muscle mass compared to 226lb Foreman- almost bordering on skinny

I think Foreman was not fully matured when he fought Ali

Joshua isn't as aggressive as Lyle and lacks Lyle's defense and punching power. Lyle also kept his hooks really short, which is why Foreman was really feeling those shots. Joshua throws his hooks too wide and Joshua also has a bad habit of throwing his uppercuts from way outside. Parker and Takam weren't good enough to make Joshua pay for that, but Foreman would give Joshua a straight right for his trouble.

Foreman also did better against bigger men, since they were easier for him to land on. Small tricky guys gave Foreman the most trouble.

George foreman uses an old school method of pushing at your shoulders and arms to prevent you from punching. He also uses parries as well as turning you or pushing you down and swinging when you come up. He is bad news against any pressure fighter smaller than him or someone of similar size that likes to come forward (Parker for example). Everyone thought the same thing as you till he destroyed Frazier.

The HW division today is quite poor and thin, with about five truly world class fighters, two of which are old and coming to the end of their runs, and another who routinely weighs around what Foreman weighed in his prime, and who is coincidentally considered one of the biggest punchers in the division.

The rest of the top twenty is filled up with mediocre fighters who are mostly just overweight sluggers or protected prospects too timid to take on anyone that might net them a loss.

People talk seriously about three cruiserweights moving up and terrorising the division, which isn't a knock on the CWs, but more a reflection that one doesn't need to be supersized to do well in this current division as is normally supposed (of course, that's based on speculation on how well Usyk, Gassiev and Briedis actually do; Briedis already has a KO win over Charr).

Bottom line is that Foreman would neither be outsized, nor overpowered, and would likely do very well against a lot of the best the division currently has to offer. Whether he'd dominate is another question entirely, but he certainly wouldn't find himself a fish out of water.

Big George looks tiny next to Wlad, if Wlad is only 6'5" then Foreman is 6"2' the most lol, just look at the pic of Wlad and Big George standing next to each other
