i think quartey is 1 of the most underrated fighters from the 90s, his left jab was surgical he gave a prime oscar hell and he gave vargas a tough time, after years of inactivity he came back and fought vernon forrest at 154 and was clearly robbed, so how does a prime quartey do against pacquiao? I believe the best way to stabilize Manny's in and out motion is with a jab, but I also think Quartey attacked in straight lines at times, that he was a bit too flat footed sometimes, so Manny's lateral movement could offset his jab somewhat. I think if Quartey tried to Box from behind the jab, that some of aforementioned could get exploited by the in and out, lateral movement, but if he pressed the action off the front foot from behind the jab, I could envisage him have a lot of success, particularly with his reach advantage. I guess it would come down to who adapted their game plan.
Quartey could definitely win. Just look at how much Clottey busted Pac up despite landing so few punches. Bazooka would rearrange Pac's face but Pac's footwork and work rate would be very difficult to deal with for Quartey. I can see Pac getting the decision based on work rate but Quartey landing the cleaner punches.
Most of the responses you are going to get are from people who either were not born yet when Ike fought or were toddlers. I was alive and watching boxing as an adult when Ike fought. So far the welterweights that Manny has beaten don't even come close to: Ike, Tito, DLH, Mosley, or Whitaker. To put that in perspective the aforementioned welterweights don't compare to: Leonard, Hearns, Benitez, or Duran. And to put into further perspective the Cotto, Clottey, Margo, (old Shane), (old DLH), Berto, and Cintron's of today would lose to: Curry, Starling, Honeyghan, or Breland. I would even say Brown, Blocker, and Davis would probably beat the Cotto, Clottey, Margo (old Shane), (old DLh), Berto and Cintron's of today. But I am less sure of this. I think there would be some wins, some losses based on styles etc... So could Ike defeat Manny, you betcha. Ike's shell and use of jab would confound Pac. Also the fact that Ike would have a reach advantage, allowing him to use a combination of his peek-a-boo style, distance, and his jab to defend against Pac's superior foot and hand speed. Ike is the only welterweight to put DLH on the SEAT of his pants. This isn't a weight drained DLH fighting at weights too low for him. Ike also bullied DLH around the ring starting from RD6 to RD11 (not even Shane was able to bully DLH). Ike would sometimes tire late in fights but that was against MUCH larger men than Manny. And that never prevented Ike from winning fights, or hurting those opponents in the later rounds.
