Could a ''prime'' Mike Tyson truly beat the Buster Douglas of February 11th 1990?

We'll never know the answer. But it would have been nice to see the Tyson of 1986-1988 show up.

After the long count, he was wobbly and exhausted. The bell rang and he walked like a drunkard back to his corner. Kudos for him gathering himself for the next round. That was really championship stuff.

It was a decent knockdown but Douglas was neither badly hurt or exhausted.

He was stunned by the punch but had the presence of mind to wait for the optimum moment to get up and his recovery (if he was indeed exhausted which he wasn't) between rounds was excellent.

He flogged Tyson from minute one of round 9 and Tyson looked exactly like what he was...a thoroughly beaten and dominated fighter. The KD added an amendment to the beating Tyson received and is being used to water down Tyson's loss to this day still.

some stuff being said in this thread is simply ludicrous, I mean simply ludicrous. Now some are claiming Douglas wasn't even hurt after the Tyson KD. WTF. Yeah boxer go down and stay down longer than the 10 count when they are perfectly fine :patsch Douglas was VISIBLY hurt and stunned and then the round ended. If it had been in the middle of the round, even a less focused and past his best Tyson likely would've finished him, let alone a prime version. Tyson beat better people than Douglas, and even a non prime Tyson almost beat him. To even think a Prime version wouldn't be able to close the deal is simply ridiculous logical line of progression.

The punch momentarily stunned him obviously because he went down. Since when did he stay down longer than the 10 count you moron?? He timed the count perfectly, got up fine and proceeded to kick Tyson's ass the very next round.

Course he's able, hell he'd be favoured.

Whether he would actually beat Douglas or not is very debatable indeed.

A prime Mike Tyson lost to Buster Douglas. He was 23 years old and a 42-1 favorite.

He did not win a single round.

Not really, if everything was backwards Mike would have beaten Douglas andthe question need not be asked.

That doesn't even make sense when the thread question is what would Tyson of the 80's do under rooney which was considered his prime years! He doesn't even need to be in his prime years he just needs to be better prepared, like he was with Bruno or Ruddock, the question is ridiculous or should I say crazy.

A better thread and more realistic one would be could Douglas have gotten out of round 1 in a rematch!:yep

Well to say Douglas gave Tyson one of the most one sided beatings in heavyweight boxing championship history I'd say it's a dead cert Douglas would get out of round 1.....
