Could AJ decisively Defeat A 1990s Champ?

Yes.

At his best Joshua was an offensive machine with huge power and he'd have a chance against most guys that don't have superlative skills or an adamantium chin.

 

"Could" he beat any of those?

Yes.

On the other hand I'm not sure I'd favour him to do so, no, probably not. Maybe Bowe.

 

He could fare well vs Bruno, McCall, Seldon, Rahman, Moorer, an off version of Holyfield, 45+ year old Foreman. Maybe he gets lucky against Lewis like McCall and Rahman did.

 

Depends on who we’re talking about when we say “ champ.” All kinds of guys held belts in the 90s. So if it’s just a matter of him beating a mere belt holder, then yes. There were some guys he could have beaten back then. If it’s the elites of the period then it becomes a harder question to answer. As for linear holder I think Michael Moorer, James Douglas, George Foreman and even the ill-faded version of Evander Holyfield who lost to Moorer could have been potential victims.

However when he unified the belts he was mean and hungry, and it was becoming a genuine problem that nobody could last long enough to give him a serious test.

Agree. Although losing to Andy Ruiz, his almost getting beat by a 40 year old retired Wlad along with a less than stellar performance against Carlos Takem doesn’t instill much confidence. But I maintain that there were some champions back then that he could have beaten

 

He might well beat everyone other than those, however.

 

If you're just saying belt holders, then it's weird to ask if he COULD decisively beat any of them, because anyone who says no is showing themselves to be irrationally biased. The answer, objectively, is yes. Of course he could and likely would. As Andy Ruiz would likely beat at least one or two.

 

He unified the belts against Wladimir Klitschko, a 41 year old, a 'life and death' fight ended with a TKO in the 11th round, and against Joseph Parker with a 12 round decision win.

The 'early KOs' where boxers were not giving him a serious test came some time before he stepped up and unified anything.
