When the topic of Ali vs. Tyson comes up we usuayt argue about the pre exile Ali vs Tyson before he and Kiven Roony parted ways. It ks my opinion that Tyson would win this match up mostly due to the way Ali fights. All of his movement will get him knocked out against Tyson. The way to beat Tyson is to stay infront of him and basicly hit and hold and hopem to ware him down for a late round stopage. This to me sounds a lot more like hoow the post exile Ali fought. Could the rope a dope strtgy that Ali used to beat Foreman with or would he be best advised to use a diffrent stratagy facing Tyson?
I am inclined to think that rope a dope might not be as effective on Tyson as it was on Foreman. While Foreman may have hit harder than Tyson. I beleve that Tyson was a much smater boxer and would not have wasted punches like Foreman did. I think that "old" Ali stands a etter chance of beating a prime Tyson, but I don't think rope a dope would be the best way for him to do so.

It might work, it was not just lieing on the ropes and take and beating and come back. It was countering, finding openings, holding(Yes Ali held Foreman). I think it could work on Tyson, but Ali would have to pay a price for it.

Prime vs prime, I think Ali could beat Tyson...but the rope-a-dope would not be the best way to do it...in my opinion.

At first i thought, 'maybe, but it would be harder than doing it to Foreman', then i thought it was difficult to do so to Foreman and took a lot of patience, so maybe it wouldn't materialise against Tyson.

I would pick li over him in a h2h ultimately though

Of course! Bruno,Greene & Smith had no problem with smothering Tyson & lasting the distance. & Tyson did little to counter this tactic.

well it didnt work against frazier in their first fight. ali would have to do a combination of moving and holding to avoid tyson's power

you shouldnt dismiss a prime tyson. a prime ali made qute a bunch of mistakes in the ring that tyson could have taken advatage of like pulling his head staright back to avoide punches, look at the cooper fight

Not for long stretches, perhaps maybe in spurts. It would be dangerous for him to try to fight tyson the same way that he did foreman. Tysons punches were much faster and he threw them in combinations which would give him a better chance of catching ali. Foreman, while powerful and hard hitting, was slow and often telegraphed his punches and it worked to ali's advantage.

The best and smartest way for ali to fight tyson would be in the center of the ring where he could best utilize his physical advantages.

thats why it didnt work with frazier because frazier had better punching technique as well.

I don't think it would be a good plan.
